This is a conversation I had with my little brother last week. He is 17 and was wearing a Lego Indiana Jones t-shirt at the time. (That's important.) Him: What book is that? / Me: Mansfield Park. / Him: Who's it by? Can I read it? / Me: Jane Austen. No, I haven't read it yet. / Him: What's that one? / Me: Persuasion, also by Jane Austen. / Him: Can I read that one? / Me: No, I haven't read it yet either. / Him: But I wanna read it. / Me: I will cry if my 17 year old brother reads a Jane Austen before me. / Him: But I wanna read Persuasion! / Me: Here, have Pride & Prejudice. / Him: This isn't Persuasion. I wanna read Persuasion! / Me: ... / Him: Wait, will my English teacher be impressed if I read this? / Me: If your English teacher is a woman. / Him: Awesome! Wait, will my friends beat me up? / Me: ...erm, possibly.
He might be even weirder than I am. It's a running joke between me and my friends that my youngest brother must be adopted or something because he's the only one of us that's normal.
