Feeling all grown-up like...

We (my class) had our first hospital visit yesterday. We had to go a take complete medical histories on real patients at Howard University Hospital. My pt. was cool and helpful but a couple of my classmates got schizophrenic patients who couldn't be very cooperative, they still had to get the info as best they could though. I finished the 5 page handwritten write up in 3 hours and got it turned in this morning. Fun!

Seeing all of us running from the hospital to campus in our little white lab coats was so funny/odd. I felt more like a television character than a real student. I guess that will change eventually. It did strike me how powerful that white coat is. Ours is short (hip length) because we are students but no one outside of the medical world seems to know what the coat length means. People still defer to us in public, being extra polite or striking up random conversations. Sometimes it's cool but sometimes it just means that the panhandlers are MORE pissed when I don't give the money. They assume I'm a doctor and loaded, not a college student with $2 in my pocket.

OH...point of irony - I have been invited to join a Science/Mathematics Honors Society. ROTFLMAO!!
