Thanksgiving

Nov 23, 2006 17:01

I am thankful for friends like Chrissy, Steve, and Justin.
I am thankful for things that come full circle: always ending up at Barbie's every Thanksgiving, always coming back home, and always ending up driving down Rt. 1, no matter what freakin' state I'm in on the East Coast.
I am thankful for the wind in my hair, the rain falling outside, and the knowledge that there are stars above the clouds.
I am thankful for my aunt's cooking, the small vegan dishes on the side for my cousin, the horrific look on my dad's face when he takes the "meat-less stuffing" by accident, and the huge amounts of leftovers we'll have for lunch tomorrow.
I am thankful for a house full of close family, extended family, friends that might as well be family, and a mix of land and cell lines with family on the other end.
I am thankful that my grandmother knows my face this year.
I am thankful for the barely-contained racket I can hear upstairs, and for the family walking in and out of the room.
I am thankful for the "computer room", courtesy of my uncle's unsecured network.
I am thankful for the Skipbo and Uno decks that live in the family room.
I am thankful for the buffet line of mothers trying to balance their plate, their kid's plate, 2 bowls of jell-o, and a salad plate.
I am thankful for those too young for kids, or those whose kids can get their own food, who take a plate or bowl from the mothers.
I am thankful for the laughing, giggling, shoving, close-knit chaos that is my family getting together every November.
I am thankful for the Magnum bottle of blush wine we go through every Thanksgiving.
I am thankful for the stools pulled up to the counter, because two long buffet tables weren't enough for my family.
I'm thankful for my father jumping up and down and making an idiot out of himself, just to amuse his 2-year-old grand-niece.
I'm thankful for my grandmother's "smoking room", also known at the porch.
I'm thankful for my brother's boasting that once he's out of the house, he's out for good, and will spend his Thanksgiving alone, with a ton of beer and deep-fried turkey.
I'm thankful for Pat bugging me about my Hebrew homework, and showing off the Bible program he's using now (BibleWorks -- it's actually really impressive. BitTorrent, as soon as I get home! lol)
I'm thankful for platters of cut up vegetables, and the same green couches and recliners (even in a new house) that everyone sits around in.
I'm thankful for Kristen's happines, and I'm thankful that Shaun is finally starting to feel like a part of the family.
I am thankful for Gerri and Greg both textmessaging me "happy Thanksgiving" today.
I'm thankful for Courtney IMing me, and the ensuing "Kentucky Fried Fake Turkey" conversation.
I'm thankful for my father's explanation of the etymology of UMMB.
I'm thankful for the new sweet potato casserole my aunt tried this year (it was GOOD!!!)
I'm thankful for sleeping on the couch, because we ran out of beds.
I'm thankful for everyone who is here this year, everyone who has been here in past years, and everyone who will share my family's traditions in years to come.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. What are YOU thankful for?

thanksgiving, public
