AAAAAAA THE SOX JUST SWEPT THE WORLD SERIES IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I saw the most AMAZING play. It's called "Weightless," and it's at the Perishable Theater in Providence. I was about to say something like "Everyone should go see it," but then I remembered that only like three of you who might be reading this actually live anywhere near here. Well, so it goes.

Basically, I've realized (after many drafts) that my attempts at describing this play only make it sound stupid. I'm really good at making non-traditional work sound stupid. So, let me start by saying there was absolutely NOTHING stupid in this play. It's set in an apartment on the seventieth floor of a building that's more or less falling apart. There is a family: a plastic surgeon wife, an insecure husband, and a violent son who has some sort of unexplained mental disorder. No one in the family has left the apartment in years; the plastic surgery can more or less be done virtually. Living with them are the son's nurse, whose job it is to inject medicine into him and sing to him, and the maid. The maid is an immigrant. She doesn't remember what country she comes from, and at some point after she came to America, her "female parts" disappeared somehow. The plastic surgeon uses the maid as a model and experiment. Lord, it sounds stupid already. Hear me out. The play is, at its root, an exploration of immigration, illness, sexuality, and above all else power. While it is technically abstract, there is still a recognizable storyline, which I think gives the surreal aspects more power. The acting is INCREDIBLE, especially from the person playing Arrende (the maid). Since I saw this play with my performance class (and the same professor's writing seminar), I got to stay for a post-play discussion with the playwright, director, and actors. That was awesome too, because everyone involved was so talented, and I loved hearing all these people descrbing how this happened and how they were able to create and live in the world of the play. I got home and spent something like the next four hours in a sort of afterglow state. Then I watched the baseball game, which was totally exciting. Now I'm here, and I'm feeling a sort of double-afterglow. The Red Sox are a really awesome team, and "Weightless" is one of the best plays I've ever been to.

Oh, and if you are one of those three people I referred to above, and you'd like to see it, call me. I'm looking to see it again.
