--Likes people (genuinely), and enjoys spending time with them, but ...
--Is an introvert, if not especially shy. They aren't the same thing.
--As much as he loves people, there are times he'd rather be with animals.
--As much as he loves people, there are times he'd rather be entirely alone. A Cedric subjected to constant attention/interaction with others is a very grumpy Cedric.
--Is well-liked by most people who know him.
--Despite that, doesn't have a best mate, just lots of friends and admirers.
--Has a good sense of humor and likes to laugh, even at himself.
--Is a Libra (born Sept. 27).
--Struggles to find points of agreement or come to a consensus, and will attempt to mediate quarrels.
--Sometimes has a hard time picking a position because he can see both sides. This is less indecisiveness than an awareness of grays.
--Values community a great deal, and compassion for others. The quickest way to win his respect is through an act of kindness, and the quickest way to lose it is through an act of unprovoked viciousness. Doesn't really 'get' mean people, and is offended by them.
--Believes absolutely in fair play; hence, he tried to call for a rematch when Harry fell off his broom during their Quidditch match. Yet has no problems breaking rules if that's 'fairer.' Functions at Kohlberg's Stage 5 of moral development (post-conventional/social contract: an understanding of social mutuality and a genuine interest in the welfare of others). He will not cheat to win, unless everyone else is on the same page -- wasn't comfortable knowing about the dragons until he realized Fleur and Krum did, as well.
--Wants to get a job in the Department of International Magical Cooperation, when he graduates.
--Received 8 OWLs (of 9 taken), 7 with Os: Transfiguration (O), Charms (O), History of Magic (O), Muggle Studies (O), Herbology (O), Defense Against the Dark Arts (O), Care of Magical Creatures (O), Potions (E), and Astronomy (P). He only took Astronomy because he had to, and blew it off to study for the others. He suspects his (P) was very nearly a (D).
--Is best at Transfiguration and Charms.
--Has a temper, which he struggles to keep under control because he thinks he should be nicer (and fears angering people). His temper is a result of suppressing smaller irritations until he blows.
--Knows that temper/rage gives him the capacity to hurt someone, and that scares him a little. Thinks he might be able to kill if sufficiently provoked -- and doesn't want to. Ever.
--Is more competitive than he's entirely comfortable with. Still, likes to win.
--Is a gracious winner, quick to acknowledge assistance from others, as well as excellence in his opponent. Tries to be a gracious loser. Since he doesn't lose often, this is both easier and harder.
--Enjoys praise, but isn't entirely comfortable with that, either. Wonders if he might be a little vain, and isn't sure he likes the idea.
--IS a little vain. But not unforgivably so; struggles with the fact he's exceptionally gifted, and wonders sometimes about the fairness of that -- even suffers some guilt for it. But he wouldn't give it up.
--Isn't unaware he's attractive, and mostly likes it.
--Occasionally looks in the mirror and wishes he wasn't quite so pretty. Knows people don't take him as seriously as he'd like. Knows some people see the pretty face and assume there's no brain behind it. If he's not normally an intellectual show-off, if someone implies he's too pretty to be clever, he'll take a certain vicious pleasure in proving him/her wrong.
--Likes to appear neat both because he knows it makes him look better, and because he has a general distaste for dirt (not necessarily mess). Even if he's occasionally unkept, he'll never be dirty.
--Has a hard time not reacting (negatively) to people with hygiene problems. He may intellectually know this isn't a very flattering reaction, but it's almost instinctive. This is about cleanliness, not wealth. Poor but clean doesn't bother him.
--Is upper middle class.
--Doesn't, as part of that distaste for the dirty/ugly, have a high tolerance for 'locker-room talk,' and is just a bit of a prude.
--Also, and predictably/conversely, likes beauty. Worried when younger that might make him a sissy. Doesn't worry about it as much these days. Will take time to smell the roses.
--Can't carry a tune in a bucket. Likes music anyway, but with no real refinement. He likes what he likes.
--Math/numbers is not his best subject. He's verbal-visual, not quantitative. Hates astronomy and arithmancy; dumped both as soon as he could. He'd rather draw the planets than measure their path.
--Loves to read, on a wide variety of topics. Very, very naturally curious.
--Although quick to learn, has some other weak spots, in addition to math. He's an excellent problem/puzzle solver, but not so good at memorization. He understands theories better than he amasses facts. So it may take him a bit to memorize a large number of spells, but he can often make them work very quickly, once he's got them.
--Is a fairly powerful wizard, but not the most powerful, even in his own year. The Goblet picked him for a combination of factors.
--Is a natural athlete and loves Quidditch, but doesn't have the passion for it that some do. Suspects he was chosen captain more on House popularity than personal interest. Wonders if he should feel guilty for that. Does love to fly, however. Was planning to give up his position as Seeker to become Keeper, due to his height, had the Triwizard Tournament not run. He was tall when chosen, and grew another 4 inches after (stands at 6'2").
--Loves to be outside. He'd rather read a book in a tree than in his room.
--Loves heights. His secret wish is to skydive (which he read about in a book).
--Is a bit lazy, in part because he does learn fast and can do so many things well. But he can work very hard when he wants to.
--Wants to be a kind person, even if he's not always.
--Dislikes obnoxious, opinionated, or self-centered people, and actively avoids them.
--Will grant grace/slack to obnoxious, opinionated people who nonetheless display compassion for others.
--Admires compassion and thoughtfulness MOST in another human being. These qualities will, in his book, trump almost any fault.
--Sometimes secretly wishes he was a little more obnoxious himself -- or at least willing to say what he really thinks.
--Doesn't, because he hates to hurt feelings. Also doesn't, because he's not sure people would still like him if they knew what he really thought sometimes.
--Is more opinionated than he wants people to know; usually keeps his mouth shut.
--Is still human enough to laugh when someone he doesn't like is made to look like a fool. (Such as Malfoy as a ferret.)
--Thought Harry might qualify as obnoxious until Harry told him about the dragons. That single act changed Cedric's whole attitude about Harry.
--Was lying when he told Harry that he'd asked people not to wear the "Potter Stinks" badges. (movieverse) He said it because he intended to tell them, in the wake of Harry's confidence to him. And he did.
--Dislikes liars, and being accused of it, but still lies himself in order to avoid hurting people's feelings.
--Keeps his word. Values dependability.
--Finds it almost physically painful to watch someone who isn't vicious/obnoxious be made a fool of. He'll either intervene (if possible) or walk away because he can't stand it. His prestige at Hogwarts often allows him to intervene. He's known Luna Lovegood most of his life (they grew up near each other), and will protect her. He likes to see himself as a defender of those weaker than he is.
--Will try to do the right thing. Sometimes he fails. He's very hard on himself when he does.
--His greatest weakness is his desire not to have people mad at him. It can lead him into moral ambiguity, and is where he's most likely to fail at doing the right thing. In the past, he hasn't always spoken up when he probably should have, and he knows it.
--Can get caught between his appreciation for the loyalty of friends/family versus awareness of what's right (his father's support for him/denouncing of Harry, and same with his friends). He HATES being put between a rock and a hard place like that, and is never sure what to do. This is different than his fear of making people mad at him.
--Is an excellent planner, but can panic in a real crisis.
--Thinks he's less brave than he is.
--Is more of a natural leader than he realizes.
--Likes girls. A lot. Has dated more girls slightly older than him than younger. Is not a virgin, and hasn't been since 15.
--Has occasionally wondered about kissing a boy, and whether that's just normal curiosity or a sign he's a little bisexual. Isn't sure what he thinks about the latter, but is generally phlegmatic on the topic when it comes to others. Suspects Justin Finch-Fletchly has a crush on him, and maybe Zacharias Smith. Is more flattered than offended. Is not interested in kissing either of them, however. Had a few dreams about Viktor Krum. Found this disturbing enough he refuses to think about it.
--Prefers sexual activity with someone he cares about. Isn't sure he could perform well with someone he wasn't at least fond of.
-- Is able to keep secrets extremely well.
--Sees himself as a bit of an odd duck, and takes a certain pleasure in that. Likes his idiosyncracies. Most people do not know the full Cedric. They know the Cedric he lets people see.
--This is not falseness. What he lets people see is entirely genuine, but uncovering Cedric is like pulling off veils. It usually takes a long time before someone really gets to know him.
--Really does care about Cho, although he didn't have a crush on her when he asked her to the Ball. That came later. She didn't have a crush on him, then, either.
--Is romantic enough to want to marry and grow old with the same person.
--Doesn't want to have an only child because he was an only child. Would rather have none than one. Would prefer to have two or three, but it's not something he really thinks about.
--Entered the Triwizard Tournament to prove something to himself, not to win fame (or not primarily).
--Favors the color green ... but avoids admitting as much because it's the color of Slytherin House, which he distrusts.
--Is very confident he was put in the right House, though the Sorting Hat actually offered him Slytherin and Ravenclaw first (in that order). He thinks it was a trial.
--Finds the popular (mis)conceptions about Hufflepuff by turns annoying and amusing.
--Values wisdom over knowledge, despite his pride in his own intelligence.
[Credit for this character sheet of sorts goes entirely to
minisinoo. I merely tweaked it a bit to suit my version of Cedric more. It has greatly helped me in developing him as a character. As a matter of fact, her stories are what inspired me to pick him up! I therefore highly recommend you visit her
site if you are a fan of both incredible writing and Cedric Diggory.]
