AnOTP - for the tormenting of Mr. Darcy

Dec 02, 2006 00:19

Antisocial as ever, Darcy will be seated at his desk, working on his correspondence. He would prefer not to be bothered, but that hopefully won't stop anyone.

Cosette, for some reason or another, will end up there with him. She wants nothing more than to leave without speaking to him, but will curtsey like the proper young lady she is.

"Mrs. Pontmercy," Darcy says cooly, acknowledging her presence with a polite nod.

Typist: Oh, this is going to be tough. They're going to fight this kicking and screaming, aren't they? XDDD

"Mr. Darcy. You have been well, I hope?"

"Quite. Will you care to sit? I can have a fresh pot of tea brought."

"... Certainly. Thank you." She takes a seat, wondering why he is being so civil.

He sends a servant for a pot of tea, tidying his things and rising to join her. "I hope you are well today?"

"I am. Quite well. Thank you for asking. How is... your... well..." she trails off, because she really has no idea what he does for a living.

"My?" He cocks an eybrow, unsure what what she means.

"Your... business, I suppose. Or... whatever it is you do that keeps you so occupied here."

"I am a gentleman," he informs her. "I have estates to manage, money to invest. Stacks of paperwork in droves, I'm afraid."

"I see." She makes at face at the mention of paperwork. "Marius has quite a bit of paperwork for some cases. I hardly ever see him at those times. It must get so terribly tedious."

"I do not mind it so much. I find idleness to be far more tedious."

"That is quite true. People have been known to do dreadful things in the pursuit of amusement. If someone were not idle, such things would surely not happen."

He's amused. "Do you think so? I'm constantly being told that my distain for idleness is unhealthy."

"The nuns told us idleness was a sin, and time that would be better spent praying."

"Prayer is simply a spiritual outlet for idleness," Darcy replied.
