I love Valentine's Day!
... no, that's a lie. Hahaha. I have nothing special to do on this holiday. I have no boyfriend to call and spend the day with, nothing all that special happening with my family past a bunch of meals where we actually eat together (which is happening less and less lately, so the chance to coordinate our schedules make me really happy), and... I never receive any chocolate. But I'm determined to enjoy this holiday anyway!
I've head plenty of opinions on this holiday. Valentine's is either the bee's knees or the stupidest holiday ever. I mean, I tend to switch sides depending on the year. But this time around, I've had an epiphany! I know, I know, you probably don't want to read my teenaged, bright-eyed drivel. You're welcome to backspace now. That is your only warning.
But okay, I never understood hating intangible things to begin with. I understand hating war, hating rain, hating things like that. But why would you hate holidays? They're reasons to celebrate. Admittedly some of the basis for certain holidays are strange (I will never understand St. Patrick's Day to be honest) but that doesn't mean you should hate everything that's strange! The matter of fact is if other people are to enjoy this day, what's the point in hating it? You choose how to live your life, so if at all possible, I don't see any reason why anyone would need to be upset on this day of all days.
When other people are happy, don't you want to join them? And even if there are people who don't like this holiday... I don't think that seeing more sad faces would make them think that it's really any better. And... as judgemental as I may sound because of this... if people are upset today because other people are happy, I hope those people are able to look past themselves and be happy for the other people. ... though when I put it like that, it almost sounds like a test of will, doesn't it?
Nonetheless... I hope everyone on my f-list has a wonderful Valentine's Day! I adore you all and please have fun today, if at all possible.
edit: And then LJ tells me I seem to be running out of paid account time, f-ffft. Are you challenging my holiday spirit, LJ? BRING IT ON.
