A tidal wave of Marshalade

I was perusing Gamefaqs the other day, when someone linked a "Landover Baptist" site - you know the type. The kind people who are arguing against the Theory of Evolution being taught in schools. It seems they have a few people trying to evangelize in World of Warcraft, but that's not the funny part.

No, the part that tickled my fancy was at the very bottom. One of the site's advertisements was for a What Would Jesus Do thong.

This coming from the conservative, bible-thumping southern baptists.

I still can't figure out if the site is for real.

The PVP grind is officially back on. I've calculated it out - I need exactly 118,125 honor points and 170 tokens to get the gear I want. This isn't actually as daunting as it looks, considering a win generates 3 BG tokens and I already had 27 saved up. I don't know how much honor each BG is worth yet, but regardless of the new figures it's certainly much easier than the previous grind.

The biggest change is that I am no longer required to grind X hours a day. That alone makes this task infinitely more bearable.

The patch has a few downsides. The Beta talent changes didn't make it, which is a disappointment. The realms themselves are extremely volatile at the moment, freezing and/or disconnecting people randomly and without warning. The new patch also seems to have broken every single addon ever. Granted, I can play the game without them, much like one can drive a car in 100 degree weather without air conditioning. The question is not could I, but would I.

But, the revamped PVP system and all the minor changes make up for it. Bank slots were increased, and to my distinct pleasure, Poisons now once again remain through zonings. Itemization went through a subtle change that is ultimately for the better, if not a little confusing. Hunters got nerfed (only 1 RAP per Agi now), which is always a plus. Druids can turn into trees, which is amusing.

And, oh yea - Rogues can Cheat Death. You have to spec subtlety for it, but honestly Sub isn't nearly as pitiful as it used to be. All the benefits are, well, subtle. Quite apropos. I'd say heavy sub is a viable alternative to CB/Prep these days.

So, in all I'd say the patch was a success. The good outweighs the bad at any rate.

I really want to like FFXII, but for some reason I just can't get into it. I think it's because it tries so hard to be a MMORPG. Thing is, I already have one. What I really want, is a turn-based RPG that I can just pick up and play. Something without random loot tables and rare mob spawns.

I think I'm just going to end up hacking it, and playing through for the story. The story itself is quite entertaining, which is why it pains me that I just can't bear to sit down and actually play the game.

Ah well. Such is life, I suppose.
