Character info
Series/Fandom: Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
Character's Name: Ventus
Character's Sex: Male
Character's Age: Unstated. I'm assuming no more than sixteen, more likely fifteen - and he can't remember himself, so it's a moot point anyway.
Canon point: Current. Yes, current - as in happy fun coma-times for the last eleven years.
Abilities: Ventus is a Keyblade wielder, though he is not a Keyblade Master. He quite likely could have been one in a few more years, since even before Master Xehanort's "loving treatment" he didn't like using or giving in to the darkness, but a few other things ended up getting in the way before that could happen.

As a Keyblade wielder and apprentice to a very capable Master, Ventus is hardly helpless in a fight. He isn't as strong as Terra nor as magic-savvy as Aqua, but Ventus is quicker than both of them, his small size helping his speed. He compensates for his direct attack power not being as high as some others by getting more blows in and being able to get out of the way quickly, proving that he can take care of himself despite what Aqua and Terra tend to think. His elemental affinities are Light and Wind, somewhat predictably, and he is the only one (of his group, at least) that can use the powerful and self-healing Salvation and Faith commands. He can also glide in mid-air at high speeds and is capable of using the standard magic and physical attacks of his generation of Keybladers. A complete listing of Commands can be found here. Unusually, he is the only Keyblade wielder shown to use a backhand grip.

Additionally, Ventus wears space-compressed armor in the form of the chunk of metal attached to his left shoulder. Activating this armor allows him to travel through the space between worlds without being attacked and swallowed or corrupted by darkness. The same magic can also turn his Keyblade into a glider that he stands on to fly, which can be used both over land and in space.
Background: Over here!
Appearance: Just like this, only usually he's smiling :( Since he's been trapped in a heartless coma since the end of BBS, he hasn't aged physically, as if he's been in suspended animation.
Personality: Ventus "Call me Ven" is, at heart, a simple kid. He wants nothing more than to become a Keyblade Master with his best friends, Terra and Aqua, two he views as close to him as family members. Absolutely everything he does on his journey is either to locate a friend, make friends, or protect friends (or people in the path of the Unversed, but they usually end up becoming his friends after that). What has happened to him before, though, is anything but simple, and it's when Ven finally learns the truth of his past that his true colors are shown.

Originally the apprentice to Master Xehanort, who was attempting to use him to create the ultimate weapon in the χ-blade by pitting the darkness in him against the stronger light. Ventus, showing his intense dislike for hurting people and knowing he will not be able to do what Xehanort wishes, refuses and is not strong enough to stand up to his Master's tactics, leading to the creation of Vanitas. He wants to get strong, he wants to be better, but not at the cost of turning into a monster. Ven hates causing people trouble or putting them in peril, and whether or not that is a result of his heart being made of pure light is a moot point. Ven has lived all of his life that he's aware of in that state, and after four years those actions and patterns of thinking have engraved themselves on his brain and will not go away. When it comes down to it, he willingly chooses to sacrifice himself, knowing that doing so will mean he will cease to exist, because if he doesn't the worlds and his best friends will suffer cruelly. Even though he fears fading into nothing, when the end comes, he welcomes it with a smile, knowing that he has done the right thing and that Terra and Aqua are safe from Vanitas once more.

At base, Ven is a good kid. He has an open, friendly nature that only disappears in extreme situations of life and death. He will willingly put aside other things (except in combat situations) to help out a friend, even one he's just met - how many other teenage boys do you know that will help sew a ballgown after they've been shrunk to four inches tall just because it'll make a girl he met earlier that day happy? Grinning, laughing, running around and enjoying life, those are the natural modes of operation for Ven, and he likes it far too much to stop being so. He enjoys having fun, and views his work of Keyblade study as just about the most fun he could ask for, since he loves it and he's constantly surrounded by the most important people in his life. He makes friends and allies easily and quickly thanks to his open nature, serving as an unintentional inspiration for more than one person he meets along his journey because of it. All in all, he is pretty simple, but in a good way - one that will always work for the best.

Ven is right up there with Sora as the most honest person in Kingdom Hearts canon. He can't keep his emotions from showing on his face, and mostly isn't aware that he does this. Never saying things he doesn't mean, he reacts quickly when problems arise - and sometimes too quickly when they don't. He can be impulsive and jump to conclusions - perhaps fewer than other teenage boys but it still happens, and usually they're major errors when he does. He believes Vanitas to be gone even after he needed Mickey's help to have any chance in their fight, refuses to listen to Aqua in Radiant Garden after she says that Terra isn't following their Master's orders, and only regrets it after Terra gets away.

Unfortunately, Ven is naive. He's a smart kid and quick to grasp most concepts he's never heard of before, and he's remarkably good at working out other people's motivations before they're explained to him in most cases, but having only four years of life experiences means that he has remarkably little to judge most situations with. He's spent the entirety of the life he remembers in the Land of Departure training to be a Keyblade Master, determinedly kept at home by all around him, especially Master Eraqus. He wants to believe in the good in everyone, and is so determined to do so that it can blind him to when things really are going wrong; it took him too long to realize that something really was wrong with Terra, though to be fair he never knew all of what Terra did the way Aqua does and his original source of information was not trustworthy in the least. When someone is obviously a bad guy and antagonistic, such as Vanitas, he doesn't have that problem, but most people are much better at hiding it than the dark side of his heart is.

Just because his heart is pure light doesn't mean he's nothing but sweetness and cheer. There's a solid line of seriousness and reasoning in his emotions, keeping him from getting his feet dragged too far off the ground and - usually - not doing everything on impulse. If a friend asks for help or he honestly thinks they need it, he's all over it right away, but he actually knows better than to immediately commit to something that has importance. He has to think for awhile before committing to what his dream is, for example. He also gets angry, though it's a quick anger that usually only comes when someone he likes or an innocent is being threatened. Ven is nearly incapable of holding a grudge, though Vanitas sure puts that to the test. He also does not like being treated like a kid - he knows he isn't as practiced as Terra and Aqua yet, but that doesn't mean he's helpless, as he proves by defeating multiple Unversed and finally Vanitas himself. His specialties are different from the two he views as closer than family to him, but no less helpful. In time, he will be a powerful Keyblade Master - but that day has not come quite yet.

Samples
Action/Journal Sample: [The device is turned on, at first pointed at... bricks. Gray bricks and cobblestones, very mundane, and entirely not capable of being interesting. The picture tilts around a little, though; clearly, whoever's holding the device is exploring it.]

So I just... turn it on and talk at it?

That's it, kupo! Oh, but it's the other way around-

It is? Oh- Yeah, there we go! [There's one more wild swing of the picture, with a roof, part of a sky, and finally a wall visible before centering on a boy's head. He looks a little bewildered, but mostly all right and happy - certainly not the norm for new arrivals after the destruction of worlds. And to a few people, he might look very familiar indeed, for all the wrong reasons.]

Hey there! I'm Ventus - I just go by Ven, though. I, um, just woke up and found out what's been going on with the worlds and everything. And I've got a question - has anyone seen a guy named Terra? He's pretty tall, with brown hair, blue eyes, wears these really big pants. If you see him, can you tell him I'm looking for him? Ummm... I think that's all. Thanks, everyone - it's good to be back.
RP Sample: Hearing he'd missed over a decade and actually seeing it were two completely different things. Ven had had his doubts - and who wouldn't, really? - when he'd awakened in the throne room, but seeing this... Well, there wasn't a lot he could do to convince himself that it was a lie.

Radiant Garden was a mess. It had been one of his favorite worlds he'd visited on his journey, but this? This place didn't look the same at all. All the flowers were gone, the buildings rearranged, most of them with a really slap-dash look as though they'd been thrown up just to get a roof over people's heads. Whatever had gone on here, it clearly hadn't been good for the town, and Ven could only stand and stare in something close to shock.

Until he felt something run into him from behind - something very short. "Hey, kupo! Don't stand in the middle of the road!"

"Ah! Sorry! Guess I got a little lost in thought there-" Quickly jumping out of the way, Ven turned to see exactly what he'd expected after that - a moogle. This one seemed to be in a hurry, but was also overburdened with papers, scrolls, a couple of bags that chinked together, pens, and a few more items he could only guess at. "Hey, let me help you carry some of that - you're gonna fall and get hurt if you can't see where you're going!"

"I can do i- Kupooo!" The moogle lost his battle with the pile of stuff when he started to walk off again, spilling materials and papers to the ground in a waterfall. Without hesitating, Ven began grabbing for the papers before they got scattered, moving quickly to chase one or two down that the breeze threatened to carry away. Once the last one was caught, he brought the stack back to the moogle with a grin. "Got 'em all! Here you go - you sure you don't need any help?"

"Well, since you already did... I'm headed to the synthesis shop, kupo. Want to come along and check it out?"

"Do I? Sure!"

Maybe the town had changed. Maybe he'd missed a long time he'd never get back. But whatever had happened, whatever was happening, Ven knew things would be okay.
Notes: Ven is a derp. That is all.
