YAY!
So I got the notification just as I was about to start cooking Christmas dinner, so that had to wait for a little while I greedily gobbled up my lovely present:
Amanti Constanti (PG, The Marriage of Figaro)
This is an absolutely delightful fic that was just what I wanted after seeing the opera this year. The writer gets sharp, sensible Susanna just so, with her softness for the Countess and Cherubino. All of them are characterised perfectly in little moments (Cherubino's terrible rhymes and OTT lamenting cracked me up) and it's got funny little bits of innuendo all through that makes sense for the canon AND for getting the three of them together. It's beautifully written too - lovely and lyrical when Susanna is thinking of the Countess, but also funny and sharp as mentioned, and that just-right ending is gorgeous.
Then I went off to start cooking filled with fic glee, then came back as I was waiting for something to cool to find - another notification for another story. For me??? :D
A Locked Box (M, Let Maps to Others - K.J. Parker)
Either this writers knows me well, or I'm super transparent about my likes because wow. This is like a bingo card of things SQ loves in one story. A puzzle box! Obsessive enemies with a history working together in academic interest! Furious hatesex while still trying to get one up on each other! I love the ending - it's clever and just right for the two characters, leaving me with the feeling that they could chase each other forever, and need to, in order to live.
So, yeah, I am so pleased right now I can't even.
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, happy holidays to all, and hoping you're having a great time over this period also. <3333333
