7 songs (autumn edition)
RL and TVD* have broken me.
I'm going to drink cherry Coke and read fic for the rest of the night to cope, but in the meantime here's 7 songs I've been madly listening to lately (and only one of them's a One Direction song!)
1. Jericho by Rufus Wainwright
After the sombre emotionalism of his last album, this one's a little light on in comparison but it's still very pretty and enjoyable. This song's a great slice of melodic pop, the kind Rufus does best, with strings and horns and choirs of harmonies in the flourishes.
2. Never Enough by JJAMZ
I really only watched the video because of shallow reasons *cough* but I forgot how much I like Z Berg's husky voice, and the song's perfectly catchy, light and wistful.
3. We Were Made Out of Lightening by Andy Hull
Andy Hull put this up on his tumblr as a demo last year but I didn't truly fall in love with it until he played it at the Manchester Orchestra show here in March, and the entire crowd stood hushed, awed into silence, during an utterly beautiful, heartbreaking rendition.
4. The Cat and the Mouse by Cursive
There are some killer songs on their new album (I Am Gemini) and this thunders along, telling a story in a melodramatic, arch and insanely catchy way. If I could vid, this would be THE only song I'd want to do a TVD vid to, all about Elena and Stefan and Damon.
5. Can't Steal Your Heart Away by Empires
I just have this really weird thing for the way Sean Van Vleet drawls "crying over giiiiiirls" in this song, okay? The driving rock with the squealing guitars going nuts in the background, also of the good.
6. Same Mistake by One Direction
Seriously, even if I wasn't into the canon at the moment, I would love this song - it's exactly that kind of beautiful, soaring, lighter-in-the-air boyband ballad with the sad, broken lyrics that makes me have all the feels. (As an aside, BSB are still the kings of these kinds of ballads, and I should know since I've been listening to them non-stop over the last week to prepare for the concert at the end of the month). Anyway, back to 1D - as a bit of trivia, this is one of 3 songs off their album they have a writing credit for.
7. Boyfriend (Neemz Milf Mix) by itsneezbitch (links to tumblr post with download)
Just - just go download it. It's Bieb doing JT-lite, with Britney's vocals and whispers and giggles laid on top. It's as ridiculously good as you'd think that combination would be.
* I'm actually only up to 3.20 but I was already a blubbing mess at the end of that! And I was spoiled today for what's coming so I don't even know how I'll handle the last two eps...
