I really love Professor McGonagall. She's no nonsense, she's smart, she's brave - but she's also capable of caring for the students, the balance of which the Hogwarts staff is really bad at doing. So it's good *someone* is there throughout the course of the books to actually be awesome at their job.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Hm. I don't think I ever have shipped anyone romantically with her, possibly because she will always permanently be the 70 year-old Maggie Smith type in my head.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
I would write fic about Dumbledore and McGonagall having tea together every evening to talk about their day. And this would occur even after he dies - at 9 every night, as Minerva is finishing up her work at the desk, he'll appear in his portrait above and she'll have poured two cups of tea, ready for him. And they'll talk, and she'll catch him up on how everyone's going - not that he can't find out by moving through his portraits and talking to other figures, but he likes hearing it from her.
My unpopular opinion about this character
Probably the only thing I could think of is that she deferred to much to Dumbledore's opinion. But we're limited by the canon we're shown of how things were behind the scenes in the Order.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
We never see her as the Headmistress of Hogwarts in her own right. :(
