Yuletide 09 recs: D - G

Jan 09, 2010 22:52

I've been reading Yuletide in one or two story bites at a time, so I didn't realise I'd amassed quite a few recs for a second post... (I know. It's almost the middle of January and I'm only up to G. I'm going to be reccing until March, lol.)

A Logical Extension (Lucy/Amy, Scud/Janet; D.E.B.S)
Very very cute! Lucy and Scud leave lives as criminal masterminds behind for love; what now?

A Day In The (Death, Discworld)
For all the great Discworld stories in the archive this year, this is my favourite. A steady, measured look at a day in the life of Death, that has such a good knowledge and use of canon.

(Other DW stories I really liked: Wizard Muddle, Boy Trouble, Whose Child Is This and The Whole Damn Rigmarole)

Of Ill-Advised Imprints and Rather Fetching Ewok Queens (Victor, Sierra, Topher)
Cracktastic, and yet somehow, very very in-character. Topher gets challenged to make an unusual imprint, which ends up in Sierra by mistake. Lots of geek joy (and panic).

Scenes from the Sea (Finding Nemo)
Awwww! One happy fishy family, post-movie.

Nor No Man Ever Loved (Matthew/OMC, Four Weddings and a Funeral)
Perfectly in-character, nicely judged tone. Fiona gives the toast at Matthew’s wedding.

A Space to Live In (Vincent/Jerome, Gattaca)
Waspish and annoyed with each other, but bonded. I like the physicality of this story, the way they have to adjust for each other, in their living arrangements, and in bed.

Naomi (Rachel, Puck; Glee)
Lovely, sweet moment of friendship between Rachel and Puck, and an unnamed baby.

Easy As One-Two-Three (Rachel, Puck; Glee)
Forgiveness and friendship and false pretences. This is funny, with a very sweet ending.

Chartreuse (Kurt, Mercedes; Glee)
Another friendship fic! Kurt and Mercedes goes shopping, and Mercedes tries on a blazer while Kurt tries on some flirting with a boy. Nicely judged character voices.

Hour of the Monkey (Google Tea House theme)
ADORABLE. :DDDDDD And it addresses questions Ro and I have been thinking about the tea house, and Monkey and Fox’s relationship, and the sweet, nervous, testing little ways they move around each other.

I’m Gonna Tell It Like A Comeback Story (Rebecca/Evan, Greek)
Mmmm, hot. I love the Rebecca voice here, confident and direct and smart, and how Evan, a little lost, finds something sure and strong to hold to.

A Marriage of Inconvenience (Sophy/Charles, The Grand Sophy)
I love Sophy and her high-spirited way so. This has the tone down, and Sophy and Charles are nicely in-character, even after a supposedly character-taming marriage.

yuletide, recs
