# I'm putting this here for the LOLZ. You'll see when you get to the line in question. :)

Oh, for the non-SMH reading, non-Aussies, Bernard Zuel is the snobby Spectrum music reviewer who we love to hate.

JONAS BROTHERS
A Little Bit Longer (EMI)

Much abuse is thrown at the Jonas trio, who are young, pretty, associated with Disney, presumably Christian, avowed virgins and make pop music that appeals to a large number of teenage girls.

Fair play to their critics, previous Jonas Brothers releases have not exactly spun gold from flax, being heavier on the syrup and showing their roots as a marketing contrivance. However, this album is a big step up, reaching for a still glossy but nonetheless vibrant ring of guitar pop. Imagine if the Jackson 5 joined Cheap Trick and tried to become Panic at the Disco. No, really. Take Burnin' Up: big melody, young, yearning voices, a bit of "come on, girl" , clean but chunky guitars, enough funkiness to bounce on a bed and synths and power drums behind it all.

There's more in that vein, from Shelf (as if I Think We're Alone Now mated with a John Hughes flick soundtrack) to Video Girl (Motown as scored by Green Day) and Sorry (more Green Day, now with added Nick Hardcastle).

There's nothing new and sometimes it's easily forgettable but mostly it's bright and shiny, full of energy and done with something more than a how-to-be-an-instant star songbook. Don't be embarrassed to like it.

Uh, so anyone want to send me a link to the album? Please? :)

## I know there's a few Ani DiFranco fans on my flist - while flicking through the paper I noticed that she's doing a gig at the Enmore Theatre on 3 Feb. Tickets go on sale this Friday.

#### I keep seeing Yuletide squee posts on my flist, and have to sit on my hands to keep from signing up. It's gonna be pretty hectic from here to the end of the year, and I've been so so dry on the fic writing front for the last few months, that I know I'd be a high risk defaulter and I'd hate to disappoint whoever I was writing for. So I'm still truly content to be a reader and reccer and beta. But oh, I'm going to miss the thrill of writing for it this time around. :(
