In-Game Character Information
Name: Dean Winchester
Series: Supernatural
Age: 26
Personality: Dean’s life revolves around his family, in particular his little brother Sam. Ever since Dean carried baby Sam out of their burning house over twenty years ago, Dean has felt responsible for Sam. This is partly due to his father, who often disappeared for days, leaving Dean in charge of caring for and watching after him. Even now that Sam is an adult, Dean is an ever-watchful guardian over his brother. This protective behavior sometimes carries over into his relationships with other people, but his papa-bear instincts are never as strong for others as they are for his brother. Dean would do anything to protect Sam.
Dean was never allowed a proper childhood, as he was almost a surrogate father for his brother since he was four years old. Because of this, he has a very hard time accessing and sharing his emotions. Emotions are a hindrance to the vigilance necessary to being a hunter; but even more than this, Dean is obsessed with putting on a brave face for his brother at all times. His lack of a proper upbringing also explains how he tends to act like a man-child a lot of the time. He's incredibly messy, more than a little self-absorbed, and cocky as all get-out.
Culturally, Dean is situated somewhere between Muggles and wizards. Dean often feels alienated from other witches and wizards because he grew up largely in the Muggle world, and he isn't particularly interested in the wizarding world at all. He sees his magical abilities as tools to further his hunt, just like a shotgun filled with rock salt or a flask of holy water. He takes pride in his "weird" family, even though his job has caused him to miss out on a lot of normal wizarding life. And of course he feels alienated from regular Muggles, because they have no idea they are even in danger from the things Dean hunts for a living. And if he were to tell them he was a wizard, or a hunter, they would find him insane. So he keeps to himself, and has very few friends outside his immediate family.
Of course, Dean has a fun side too. Dean is often a wise-ass, choosing to crack jokes rather than express his true feelings about a situation (he also thinks his own jokes are HILARIOUS, which Sam Cas any reputable person some people would disagree with). Dean is a simple guy with simple pleasures-beer, rock n roll, and the company of a pretty girl. Though he has built himself a reputation as a philanderer, Dean prefers to keep women (and men. and everyone.) safely at arm's length when it comes to emotional truth.
Background: Dean was born to John and Mary Winchester. John was a regular enough wizard, working for the Ministry of Magic. Mary came from a family of demon hunting muggles, but this fact was unknown to John. They had two sons, Dean and Sam, and lived happily for four years until one night their house was attacked by a powerful demon from Mary's past. John entered Sam’s nursery to discover his wife suspended from the ceiling above Sam’s crib by a terrible force. John commanded Dean to take Sam and run from the house as her body burst into flames and their house was burnt to the ground by the yellow-eyed demon.
John became obsessed with finding the demon that had murdered his wife. He traveled the United States with his two boys, living in their car and various motel rooms while he searched for information. On the way, he became an expert demon hunter himself, and imparted his vast knowledge onto his growing boys. Dean and Sam went everywhere with their father, and until they were eleven they learned how to hunt demons rather than go to school. Their father taught them defensive magic, gave them encyclopedic knowledge of things that go bump in the night, and taught them how to hunt.
When Dean got his Hogwarts letter, he refused to go to school. Dean had a massive sense of responsibility even then, and he felt like he would be betraying and abandoning his family (especially Sam) if he left. But his father knew there was potential in Dean that only Hogwarts could unleash, and finally resorted to stashing an unconscious Dean in the Hogwarts Express. He gave strict orders to the mousy-looking boy next to him to "not let Dean escape" and left. That boy was Castiel, and that command started a friendship that has lasted longer than any other Dean's ever had.
Dean was initially quite sullen at Hogwarts, but eventually learned to grow out of his shell and put on a semblance of sociability. Sam periodically ran away from their father to stay with Dean, which secretly pleased him to no end, but Sam stopped after Dean insisted on calling their father every time. Their father and Sam would also show up occasionally to go hunting, as John knew it was what Dean lived for, and what kept him sharp. Sam entered Hogwarts when Dean was in his fourth year, and Dean did his best to shield the awkward kid from bullying while putting on a very convincing show of disinterested contempt toward Sam. They continued to hunt at every possible opportunity.
Dean finally graduated, but barely. He was never able to show interest in any subject that didn't pertain to hunting. Of course, he excelled in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Dean rejoined their father, and the two of them would return to school for Sam when the hunt called for it. In Sam's sixth year, however, Sam and their father got into a massive fight. Sam wanted to be a "normal" wizard and refused to hunt with them anymore. Sam and Dean barely talked for two years, until one day their father disappeared. Worried, and anxious for a reason to see Sam, Dean returned to Hogwarts and implored Sam to come with him to find their father. Sam acquiesced, but on the condition that they return as soon as possible, because Sam was about to graduate. They failed to find him but managed to exorcise a harmful ghost. When they returned, Sam found his girlfriend murdered in the same way their mother had been. Sam was furious and terrified, and they left without Sam ever graduating.
Sam and Dean went on the road, becoming master hunters. Sam began to manifest psychic powers in connection with the yellow-eyed demon. They reunited with their father, and sought out and murdered the yellow-eyed demon that had killed their mother and Sam's girlfriend. However, they were too late to stop the demon from unleashing many more demons from Hell. Afterward, their father disappeared again, and now they are unsure of whether he is dead or alive. They continued to hunt together, tracking down the demons that had been unleashed, exorcising where they could and killing where they had to.
They tracked one demon to a high-level official in the Ministry of Magic. They were forced to kill the demon, killing the man whose body it possessed in the process. Right after they did this, they were caught by the Ministry, who did not believe them about the possession. Against Sam's wishes, Dean took the fall for the murder and was sent to Azkaban while Sam went free. Dean's time in Azkaban was very painful, so much so that no one knows the full extent of it. He was plagued by a sadistic guard named Alistair who tortured him every day. At the end of every torture session, Alistair would give Dean a choice: he could either start torturing others, or he would be tortured again tomorrow. Dean withstood the pain for nine months, but he finally cracked. His reputation among some from Azkaban is very, very dark, as he was an exceptionally skilled and cruel torturer.
Dean rotted in Azkaban for over a year before Castiel discovered an ancient wizarding law applicable to his case and got him set free. Sam, meanwhile, was lost without his brother and began developing his psychic powers again to gain revenge on the demon who had framed them, a woman named Lilith. When Dean was released from prison, it was a matter of weeks before he found out about Sam's relapse into his powers. He also discovered that Sam has been drinking unicorn blood to develop them. Dean made Sam swear that he wouldn't use them anymore, but Sam still struggles with addiction.
Now, a mere month since Dean was released from Azkaban, Sam has started having nightmare premonitions about Hogwarts. Something big is going to happen there. So Dean and Sam have applied for positions as counselor and DADA teacher, hoping to figure out what's going to happen and hopefully to prevent it.
Blood: Half blood; muggle mother, wizard father.
Preferred House: Gryffindor
Why you think they belong in this house? Dean has Gryffindor traits in spades. He is brave, headstrong, loyal and has great strength of character. He can be a stubborn jerk but that’s more bravado than anything.
Staff Position: Defense Against the Dark Arts
Why you think they fit this position? Dean’s life is governed by one purpose: to do the job. Without hunting and his brother, Dean has nothing. He has extensive knowledge of dark creatures and spells, either gathered himself or taught to him by his father. Really, Defense Against the Dark Arts is the only position Dean could fill. He’s not great at much else. Or groundskeeper, he could theoretically fill that position. He could stalk around the grounds and kill things in the woods. The decision is up to y’all!
If Professor would you want them to be Head of House? No, haha, that would be a DISASTUH.
Roleplay Samples
Journal Sample:(first person)
(OOC: this is in response to Cas's note to Dean included in the Castiel application, btw)
Blah blah blah. Cas. See, this? This right here? This is the reason you don't get laid. Instead of coming out with me and having a good time, you insist on sitting there with your nerd books. Come on, man-you're a professor now! That obviously means you have learned all there is to know, or at least enough for you to look great in front of the students and occasionally make the smart-asses feel stupid. What else is there to teaching anyway?
Come get a butterbeer with me dude, your next class is in like 18 hours. I will be forced to throw quaffles at you until you do. It's a labor of love, Cas.

Predictably, Dean was late to his first day of class. He had had quite the night before, apparently, though he couldn't remember most of it. He woke up on his own floor wearing all his clothes except for his shirt and a pair of aviator sunglasses on his face. Not even bothering to change clothes, he pulled on a tee and his signature leather jacket before running out the door faster than a firebolt. He would be damned before he wore one of those stupid robes.
When he got to class, the chatter of the seventh year students immediately stopped. He figured he must have cut a pretty impressive figure, scowling at them like that. That was a patented Dean Winchester scowl right there. But why was it so dark in here? Suddenly, the entire room burst into giggles. Oh. Dean snatched the aviators off his face and smiled, trying to make like it had all been some cleverly and carefully planned joke. His plan for being the gruff and frightening DADA teacher was pretty much shot to hell, might as well try the cool, charming approach. Well, this is going well.
"Hello... class, I'm Professor Winchester, your new Defense Against the Dark arts teacher. I'm replacing Ms. Whats-her-face."
He rambled on for a few minutes, trying to think of teacherly things to say, but his attention kept wandering. A few of the girls were giving him bedroom eyes already, and he had to stop himself from giving that charming grin. It is against the rules to sleep with students. It is against the rules to sleep with students. Even if they're hot and are totally up for it, it is seriously seriously against the rules to sleep with students. A girl in the front winked at him, then oh-so-slowly uncrossed her legs. Dean felt something like physical pain. He grimaced, subtly adjusted his pants and forced himself to address the entire class.
"OKAY well," Dean squeaked out, having temporarily lost proper voice control, "there's no better way to learn than to do." He crossed the room to a teacher's cupboard and brought out an ominous-looking box. "Gather round, kiddies," he said, setting the box in the middle of the floor. He opened the top of the box, then returned to his desk as the students craned their necks to see inside. Whatever was in there was shrouded in a strange darkness, and the box seemed to be emitting a strange high-pitched growl.
"Now your job today is to identify this creature and stop it, before it kills and eats you." He smiled cheerfully at their horror-stricken faces. "Try not to have too much fun!" At that moment, something small and furry launched itself out of the box and into the center of the screaming gathering of students. Perhaps today will be a good day after all.
