Appearance:
Shaolee appears somewhat young- not quite a teenager, but more than likely no older than his early twenties. He has long black hair that he keeps tied back at his neck- loose enough to be comfortable; tight enough to be neat. His eyes are a shade of pine green, he stands five feet and eight inches tall, weighs about 125 pounds, and almost always has a cheerful expression on his face. This may change to a more neutral appearing expression around some, or to an uncaring one when fighting.
Shao's personal taste in clothing would appear to be that of traditionally styled Chinese outfits, or simple loose fitting clothing- shirt and pants. When he's on a mission for Chronos in which he's fighting, or there's no need for him to use his impersonating ability, he wears the same suit that all Numbers do. When impersonating someone he, of course, wears something typical of the person down to the smallest details.
He has the roman numeral for ten tattooed at the bottom centre of his collarbones.
edit: as of
this post, Shao has a bit of scarring on the tops of both feet as a result of stigmata.
Personality:
Shaolee's outward personality is usually that of a cheerful person. He's also calm, always polite to others that he speaks to, and never seems to get upset even when others act towards him in a way that might provoke another sort of person. He is intelligent, straightforward, and gives off the air of someone that you won't ever get to know very personally no matter how persistently you try.
When fighting, Number X's disposition changes entirely. He becomes cold, and merciless, taking down his targets without banter and without remorse. He has even complained, on one known occasion, when his opponent wasn't good enough for him to have a decent fight with. Although this is so, it should be noted that, because of Train's influence on Shao when he was younger, the man won't use violence where and when it isn't needed, or if the opponent isn't a real enemy of his or Chronos.
Whether cheerful or cold, Shao almost always appears to be somewhat distanced, although he may open up to a few others eventually, especially if he admires them greatly, for whatever reason.
Abilities/Strengths:
Shao is assumed, as it is with all Numbers, to have superior reflexes and reactions than normal people. Jumping higher, and moving quicker, are also expected of Chronos elite.
Aside from this, Shao's main two strengths are his ability to impersonate anyone by changing his face in the blink of an eye (earning him the nickname 'The Magician'), and his special weapon, Seiren. Seiren is a hagoromo lined with 'Orihalcon'. This allows Shao to block most attacks, and to cut through even thick metal like it was nothing.
He also is apparently skilled at information gathering, and making simple videogames, exceptnotreally.
Weaknesses:
His main weakness would be the way he almost blindly follows Chronos' orders. Another would be women and children. Shao has taken up not killing either as a sort of emulation of his idol Train Heartnet - the former Number XIII.
History:
Little is known about Shaolee's younger years before joining Chronos. (It's not even certain if 'Lin Shaolee' is indeed his name, or if it belonged to someone else later killed.) While living in Template City, he developed and began working on perfecting his imitation techniques and possibly used this to get by.
In his teenage years, this talent was noticed by a member of Chronos, and Shaolee was accepted into the organization. Their goals of ridding the world of people that corrupted it, and keeping the peace, were what drew him to them. It is not certain whether Shao is simply fond of peace for the world in general, or if this desire indicates a turbulent childhood.
It was during his years as an eraser for Chronos that Shaolee first heard about the infamous 'Black Cat' - Number XIII, Train Heartnet. He idolised the man for the rather unique way he completed his missions (which Shao tried to learn from and which would influence him) and for his strength. After Train left the Numbers, and Shaolee was chosen to be the new Number X (the previous having died at the hands of Chronos' enemy, Creed) he made it his business to find out why Train left.
He wasn't able to do so right away, having more on his plate to deal with now than he did before. Eventually, though, Shao gathered his wanted information and waited until he was able to meet up with Train again. This opportunity came when he was sent to direct Train toward the so called 'Apostles of the Stars' (a group formed by Creed) headquarters. He did so in disguise, although Train wouldn't have known who was anyway. After Train rescues his friend, Rinslet, from Creed and escapes, Shao is given a brief chance to speak with him. After a short chat (in which Shaolee actually upsets his idol by impersonating Creed) Number X is forced to leave and trail the helicopter that escapes away from the Apostles' base.
Shaolee is not seen again significantly until he appears disguised as an information broker named 'Grin', hanging around a Sweeper named River. After a duel winds up breaking out between River and Train (and Train wins), Grin introduces himself and tells Train, as well as Eve, about a 'Sweeper Alliance' that he is forming in order to catch Creed. Grin explains that, in order to insure than only the best sweepers join, he has prepared a disc with the location of where the alliance will met hidden on it. If a sweeper can not obtain the location from the disc, they will miss the rendezvous and not be welcomed to join. Train, Eve, and River go their own ways to work out the disc, and Shao - still disguised as 'Grin' - simply waits.
On the assigned meeting day, after all of the sweepers have shown up at the designated location, Grin explains the plan for setting of to Creed's base, and how he has made preparations for the sweepers. After the explanation, and after the plan is put into action later that night, Shaolee ditches the disguise, and joins up with several others Numbers to follow behind the sweepers who were, ultimately, a means to an end- a distraction to clear the way to Creed.
While the group of Numbers are on their way to Creed's headquarters, Shaolee gets an explanation out of Number One (Sephira) about the war between Taoists and Chronos. Following this little chit-chat, and upon arriving, the numbers split up to take care of some of Creed's men while Sephira goes after Creed by herself. Shao and Jenos (Number VII) wind up on a floor together. After each one had defeated the enemy in front of them, they waited for the outcome that would decide Creed's fate. It is some time after Sephira, and then Train's, fight with Creed is concluded and the Numbers are leaving, that Shao finds himself in a different Template than the one he grew up in.
