[ History ] :
AND HIS LIFE WAS FILLED WITH AAAAAANGST--
I mean.
We know nothing about Alice’s past, and neither does he. He admits so himself: he had no other name before Alice, and “nobody knew him” before, well…
Alice finds himself in Wonderland. It’s significant that he wasn’t led there by the White Rabbit; he wandered there himself, somehow. As per normal Wonderland lack of logic, he is immediately in a festival, surrounded by people, to his confusion. Before he can recover, the Cheshire Cat gets a hold of him, quite literally. He is pulled off to one side, where the Cheshire proceeds to baffle him immensely under the pretence of answering his questions.
However, he does learn from the very unhelpful cat that he is working under the order of the Queen of Hearts, and to not look back…Or the regrets would get him.
This is when a young girl, a young, very Alice-like girl appears behind him. He is barely able to get his bearings before she hugs him from behind, murmured “poor Alice”. He turns to ask her what she is doing, and that is when she kisses him. Poor Alice is, quite understandably, confused, and then it appears that he is suddenly in pain. He pushes the girl away, falling to his knees, clearly suffering.
Alice tries to get away, but the girl is persistent, asking that he give her back her name, “Alice in Wonderland”. Alice claims that he isn’t Alice, and then the girl tries to kill him. Yes, really. She has Alice pinned and is choking him when he is saved by the Mad Hatter, who shoots the girl without hesitation. She disappears into smoke (or regrets, I suppose), and Alice is left in the dubious care of the Mad Hatter.
The Mad Hatter convinces Alice to follow him (or, rather, he orders it, and Alice comes to the conclusion that it’s his best bet.) and they set off. They don’t get far, however, before the Cheshire Cat appears to add some fun, as Cheshire Cats do. They banter for a time, during which Alice realizes that the Cheshire Cat lied to him very thoroughly. There’s nothing to be done about that, however, for the cat disappears, leaving a very disgruntled pair behind.
When they arrive at the Hatter’s house, Alice is again unable to get any sensible answers from him (and he is also forced to make his own tea.). However, the Mad Hatter does give him a gun, with the sole, helpful explanation that “you’re Alice.”
Sick of the lack of answers, Alice uses said gun to attempt to intimidate answers out of the Hatter, or at least to escape. The Hatter is unimpressed, and provocative to the point of pushing Alice to shoot him-or try to. However, the gun is lacking bullets, as the Hatter took them out beforehand. After this little confrontation, in which Alice learns that the Hatter’s job is to protect him, because he is Alice, they go to meet the Queen of Hearts at 6…Even though it’s only 2. Yes, it’s Wonderland.
The Queen of Hearts forces Alice to say his name, and that, as he finds later, locks him into “the game”. Alice is forced into participating in the game to kill the White Rabbit, and to become the true Alice. He hardly wants to-despite his quick actions against the Hatter before, the thought of killing someone makes him feel ill-but he is more or less press-ganged into his role, and with little other choice, he accepts. After all, though he pulls out his gun to try to protect himself, it can only kill the White Rabbit.
However, before he accepts, he makes a deal with the Queen of Hearts, that if he goes through with this, he’ll be given a place to live and freedom…In other words, a permanent existence. The Queen of Hearts accepts, and thus Alice begins the game.
Later on.
Alice is practicing his aim with his gun (which is absolutely miserable, really) when he is hooked by a fish and towed off to his (the fish’s) mistress. Yes, really. It is, in fact, a fish dressed as a footman, of course, as this is Wonderland.
And thus, Alice meets the Duchess.
They have tea, but when Alice sees that the Duchess is hurt, he hurries to assist her. They begin to discuss becoming Alice, and Wonderland, and we learn that Alice feels that he has no other choice but to become Alice; after all, he has nowhere else to go. The Duchess warns him that, in order to become Alice, he will have to sacrifice many things and continue to move forward.
But before he can respond, ‘it’ returns. It, in this case, happens to be a monster of regrets (no pun at all intended.). The Duchess attempts to save Alice by getting him to leave by the back door, and then she faces the monster, the monster that is clearly searching for him.
That is when the Cheshire Cat appears again. Alice tries almost desperately to help the Duchess in some way, but Cheshire stops him, telling him that it is her role to stand in for Alice, just as it is Cheshire’s role to lead him.
Alice, however, refuses to let things be at that. He pulls out the gun and tries to help the Duchess still, despite everyone else telling him that it’s hopeless. But then…He has a vision of a girl, who is presumably the ‘real’ Alice, who more or less points out all of his fears and worries.
When Alice turns, however, it is merely the Cheshire Cat who had grabbed him and who leads him to safety. The Cheshire Cat thanks him for trying to save his mistress, but then the Mad Hatter appears again, shooing the cat away and again taking custody of Alice.
And not long after that, Alice appears in Vatheon.
[ Personality ] :
Alice is not so different from the average guy.
He is generally polite enough, but he is also easily annoyed, and he will not put up with teasing and taunts without retaliation. If he does not get his way, or cannot come out on top, he will still not remain silent. Alice, if devoid of any other option, will at least crumble his complaints. If he is annoyed or upset, he will make sure the person who caused it knows it, even if that person doesn’t care. It just makes Alice feel better. He also, at times, will turn to snark or sarcasm.
With that said, he is willing to go with the flow and seems to, while not avoid, at least not go looking for fights. And, habit of letting people know of his displeasure aside, he has a healthy sense of self-preservation.
…Usually.
Alice also has a strong sense of right and wrong, and of justice. He grows easily attached to people (like the Duchess), and even if he doesn’t know a person, he wants to help them if they’re in trouble. Really, he can be said to be rather soft-hearted. When the Duchess is attacked in his place, he’s willing to do whatever it can to help her and to fix this injustice. However he is, like always, rather helpless and unable to do much of anything. His own inability to change things has a big effect on him; it pushes him to strive to accomplish something and pushes him to struggle to prove himself. As of yet, he has not succeeded, but that only makes him more determined to do so.
He does, after all, have his pride, and there is also his insecurity at not having a name or a past of any sort, really. Alice can be quite touchy about his name, or lack thereof, and this is the driving force in many of his decisions and actions.
As the Hatter pointed out, Alice is smart, but he’s an idiot too. He’s intelligent, and able to put the pieces together when they are given to him, but…he does allow his emotions to cloud his judgment at times, and he does have the tendency to refuse to believe something unless he is absolutely slapped in the face with evidence. He has learned to adapt, so while he might be surprised, Alice has grown somewhat used to odd happenings…to some extent. When things become too crazy, Alice simply accepts them, as opposed to attempting to apply logic to something so illogical, so long as they do not go against his morals in any way. With that said, there’s always a part of him attempting to make some sense of his surroundings, though he has learned to keep it to himself. Usually, anyway. Sometimes, if something surprises him enough, Alice will speak out, especially if nobody else appears to notice the ridiculousness. In other words, he is simply someone attempting to adapt to a bizarre situation.
Alice is also very determined (or hard-headed, take your pick) and he can be goaded, whether by challenges or taunts. He simply does not want to back down; backing down would be another example to himself of how he cannot take control of his own situation. Push him far enough, and he can be goaded so far as to attempt to shoot someone. Certainly it was partly in defense of himself, but a larger portion was due to the Hatter’s constant poking at his nerves and the situation, which pushed Alice to the edge of his patience.
He’s also very blunt and honest. Alice isn’t afraid to tell people what he thinks, even if he’s only talking to himself sometimes.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
He’s pretty sharp, and he’s quick to piece together when someone has been lying to him or not. Alice is also very good at adlibbing, and coming up with solutions on the fly.
Weaknesses:
He’s pretty useless in battle, really.
Alice has a gun, but it only works on the White Rabbit, and he’s a terrible shot anyway. Otherwise…he couldn’t even stop a little girl from strangling him. He’ll be in trouble without the Hatter to help him out.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Alice has a gun. It only works on the White Rabbit. Aka, it’s useless.
Also, Alice isn’t his real name. He doesn’t really have a name, I suppose.
