[He doesn't say anything in response to that, which should explain everything about the state he is in now; he simply takes a deep breath and falls silent, because this is too much for him to deal with right now--
He had found a life and a family and it was gone again...like his life is just one cruel joke.
So he says nothing; Touka can do what she wants. He just...doesn't care. Can't bring himself to care.]
[Touka lets herself in and and looks around for Alice-san. She checked the SFC on the way over and saw that Mr. Hanekoma-san person seemed to be missing from the contact list. And the emptiness and messiness of the house confirms it. She finally finds Alice-san and sits down next to him.]
That's what he wants to ask. Why bother to be his friend when they're just going to leave each other eventually, and then he'll be back where he started, friendsless, empty, but emptier than before for what he once had.
But he's too afraid to ask something like that, and so he doesn't. Instead he closes his eyes and leans his head against the wall and...hesitates.]
...Mr. H is gone.
[She probably already knows. But he himself is having trouble moving past that thought.]
[If there is more meaning to her words, he doesn't get it. He is simply too tired to care, too hurt to try for anything beyond what is obvious, because why would there be more to it?
Words seem so hollow right now.]
...I wonder how it picks.
[He has to swallow, bite down on his lip and focus so as to not give in to tears. After a moment, he continues.]
[Oh Touka. He laughs, quietly, a bitter sort of laugh.]
Yeah. You're right. It does.
[A deep breath, which turns more into a sigh, and he falls silent again. He honestly...cannot think of what to say. If he thinks about it too much, it hurts too badly, and then he feels like he can't breathe. So he focuses on the blankness; it's easier.]
Alice-san?

He doesn't want to worry her, but...
And he cares about her, too, and she'll leave eventually too, won't she? So what's the point?
This has hit him hard, and for a long moment, he is silent. He does respond...but he doesn't lift his face from where he has buried it in his knees.]
...Touka. I'm fine. It's...I'm. Fine.
[And his voice fades away. He isn't fine, not in the least.]

Hey.

He looks up--no tears, it hasn't sunk in enough for tears--and he simply looks tired. Because he has, quite honestly, given up.
If this is what his life is to be, then so be it. He's too tired to fight it any longer.]
...Why are you here?

How does it pick who to get rid of?

I don't know. It does kind of suck, though.
[She is very articulate in these situations.]

Come on. I think you should stay with us for a little bit.

But he pauses.]
...I can't leave Neku.
[He hasn't seem him in a while, but...Mr. H cared about Neku too, and he can't just...leave him, even if he isn't there.
A part of him realizes that that doesn't make sense, but he is clinging to what he can.]

[Maybe he's gone too. Wouldn't that be fitting? Both gone to the same world, but he...He won't ever see Mr. H again.
But he can't think of that right now, so he doesn't.]
