this weekend i knew the pleasure of a visit for visit's sake. i can't remember the last time anyone drove for miles to see me without being in conjunction with anything else. i should repay in kind soon, for it was wonderful. the last time i drove for miles i did one of those horrible "i'm not here to see you; i'm here to sleep on your couch after i get home from a concert in your city" visits. this city treated my visitors and me well. we explored st. paul's parks as best we could on the busy holiday weekend. after walking through the Como Park Conservatory and the Japanese Garden, i have come to the conclusion that i am entirely grateful for flowers and trees and plants of all sorts. i also appreciate the cities of st. paul, minnesota and nagasaki, japan for their friendship and cooperation in creating the Japanese Garden.
also, i got a lovely postcard in the mail yesterday. it was the highlight of my week, thus far. not only was i thrilled that someone responded to my attempts to keep in touch with them through the old fashioned mail system, but i was delighted that the senders of the postcard thought of me at all. it was wonderful, and it reminded me of all the letters i need to write. i've been writing to anyone from back home whose address i have, hoping to keep my sense of home alive in the most romantic way possible.
