Last Tuesday, Corinne and I stopped by our old school (CCA). Of course, there were a lot of people to say hello to, but we went to talk to one particular teacher (a favorite of both of us) and we talked about a lot of things with her, including the fact that we are dating (which said teacher approves of) and what we are both currently doing schoolwise. Anyway, since we both seem to be leaning towards the idea of writing in some form, the teacher happened to mention that I am among the top 3 writers whom she has taught in her entire teaching career.
And, much like the response that I had when she first said it, I still think about it and just go: "Wow. That is.. so awesome."
Being as I am, I cannot help criticizing and analyzing the whole thing to some small degree; wondering what the quality of my writing was like in 11th grade, wondering who the other 2 writers are (and if I know them), and wondering whether she might just be trying to lift my spirits and encourage me, in that "blowing smoke up your ass" kind of way.
But I eventually come back around to understanding that she would not lie about it and that, despite my attempts at trying to diminish the sheer enormity of what she said, it is and will continue to be a tremendous compliment.
So, many thanks to Ms. Claypool - one of my all-time favorite teachers, who can still manage to make me feel special in less than the duration of one English 11 class.
