Here's a totally spur of the moment update. The end of this year is approaching/is near/getting close or whatever sounds best to whoever reads this and I thought it couldn't hurt to update once before that. It will just be some free writng about various topics and how glad I'm that 2013 a year that turned out to be a miserable year will be over soon. I'll only edit this quickly so all spelling errors and whatnot will be here as a reminder to myself orz I must try to stop myself from going back to edit more later.
¤ I've been having problems with my internet connection at home this week. It's still not back to normal, I can't access everywhere and some websites takes forever to load. It's so frustrating and annoy me. It turns Tumblr and Livejournal into a nightmare. I'm not used to having these kind of problems, my connection is always kinda fast. Some days ago I downloaded a dj and it took my at least 30 minutes, that's crazy. Usually it takes me 0-2 minutes depending on the size of the dj to download from Mediafire. There's also something wrong with Livejournal, I'm not getting any email notifications about comments, replys and also about an approval about a comm I joined earlier this week. I didn't even know that I was approved before I saw the entries on my friends page. What's up with that? It's not an error on my side, I have all settings correct and my email address is working. Seriously Livejournal what if I miss something.
¤ I'm looking forward to next year, I hope 2014 will be more kind. This year have been hard on not only me but on my family and relatives.
I've also been thinking more seriously about my life in general, there's some decisions to be made about the future and everything is really stressing me out.
¤ I still love and read BL manga very much. Daily actually unless there's some urgent problems or I'm too busy or dead tired aka. falls asleep while sitting on chair tired. a BL a day keeps the doctor away but not really because my health hasn't been good this year so it's more like in my now stressfilled life a BL a day keeps me sane. I've found more new favourite mangaka and manga, that's always a wonderful thing. I'm really happy that I discovered manga back in 2008, I think manga will always be a part of me and who I am. Hopefully even in the future when I am an little old lady.
¤ Lately when byuing manga I've been trying to chase down some older out of print titles. But when it comes to June/801/DMP/DMI or what they're called then the manga doesn't even have to be all that old because some of their new titles quickly goes out of print. I don't like that when it comes to them I am forced to quickly order the new June/801/DMP/DMI titles that acually interest me before they go out of print, it's a snooze, you lose situation with them and their books. Why do they do run their business in such a way? And then there's their super expensive shipping on Akadot, they keep all their newly released titles on there for months and months before they let other shops get them and customers outside the US can't afford to order because their shipping is so expensive that it's insulting and ridiculous. Shipping for one book would be somewhere in beween 40-50 dolllars. It's like they don't want to sell manga at all and then they also often stops licensing a series and drop it because of poor sales. One example is Konoyo Ibun, how can they as a publisher treat such an awesome manga in such a bad way? That is a mystery to me. Their license hoarding is also getting on my nerves, they license but then they don't publish the books for years and years. I'm still waiting for Konbini-kun and Hana wa Saku ka. They don't license all that many interesting titles. I don't hate June/801/DMP/DMI but I do wish they could stop treating their customers so bad and also up the quality on their books.
¤ SuBLime they license and release on regular basis, they have a schedule that they actually follow and I don't think they delayed any title yet except Haru wo Daiteita, the first volume was delayed for a short time. SuBLime do have some small things that I wish they could do a bit differently. They play a bit too safe and should license some titles and mangaka that are a bit more unheard of, some new names would be nice. But I do also want them to license some of the popular series like Honto Yajuu and Hidoku Shinaide. And why oh why don't they print their licensed Kusama Sakae titles!? What are they thinking, keeping them only digital. Especially Match Uri and sequels. I do try to buy as many SuBLime titles as possible, both print and digital because I want them to be around for many years.
¤ I am really into Free! right now <3 yes the anime has ended but that doesn't change much. I want to order all kinds figures, merchandise, magazines etc. and of course the anime, I really want the special editions of the BD. I just hope and wish that if there's a second season next year, it better not go and mess anything up and ruin everything that I loved about Free! and those five precious boys.
God there's so much great and cute straps and keychains coming out and going up for pre-order now, I want them all~
¤ Speaking of figures, I'm still collecting them. Not as much as I want but what I can afford, so it's not much at all then lol
MFC (MyFigureCollection) is a fun place, it's nice being among other collectors. Not everyone outside this hobby understands what's interesting about figures, they still think it's for kids, it's kinda in a way like how some people think anime is cartoons and manga is comics. So it's great being on MFC where there's people that share my interest and besides figure collecting is a darn expensive hobby, what kind of kid have that kind of money. But I'm shy so I still kinda lurk around on MFC and learn things by myself lol and find more figures I want to own.
¤ This year I've been reading a bit of GL manga (yuri). I enjoy it but not in the same way that I love BL. There's just something really wonderful about BL and all those adorable manga boys, I can't explain exactly about all the little things that makes me love BL as much as I do, and then there's just so many talented people working in the BL manga industry that I adore. Anyway, I mostly go to the Dynasty Scans Reader website when I am out to find me some GL to read because there's much on there. I read my first title last year, it was Hanjuku Joshi and it was good so I recommend it. I haven't read all that much so I'm no expert but I do have some titles that I can recommend: Cirque Arachne, Dream at Dawn, Girl's Ride, Sweet Guilty Love Bites, Not For Sale, Virgins' Empire, Sweet Exercise, Yukemuri Sanctuary, Maintenance, Hidden Meaning, Raubritter, Flag Time, Hana to Hoshi, Sweet Examination, Sugar Complex, Lonely Wolf, Lonely Sheep. A manga that I've heard good things about but I haven't had time to read it yet is Girl Friends by Morinaga Milk,
There are a couple of BL mangaka (or they mostly works on BL) that have also worked on GL and I've read not all but almost all of those that are available in english or at least all the ones I know of. There is works by Ootsuki Miu, Sakamoto Mano, Nakamura Asumiko, Kitabeppu Nika, Hami, Amagakure Gido, Furutsuji Kikka, Inomoto Rikako, Chi-Ran, Fuji Tamaki, Konno Kita, Minami Haruka and Nangoku Banana. Of those I've read so far I really like and recommend Girls Planetarium by Amagakure Gido, Sweet and Love Potion both by Ootsuki Miu, My Unique Day by Sakamoto Mano and Overpass Junction by Nakamura Asumiko.
Actually the other day I saw on mangaupdates that Saida Nika, who is a mangaka that mostly works on GL now possibly have started doing BL. It's a manga called Utan to Fumi, it's apparently ongoing in the new BL magazine Fig. I don't think I've heard much of Fig before. It's really fun when mangaka who previously haven't worked on BL starts with it. It's not so fun though when BL mangaka kinda stops and decides to only focus on something else like seinen, josei or shoujo. But if that's what they want to do to then they should of course do so,
I still love their talent even if I'm not maybe going to be interested in reading absolutely every piece they work on. I'll probably read it someday.
¤ Random end notes
*The last movie I watched was J'ai tué ma mère/I Killed My Mother.
I really like french movies and I've been meaning to watch Laurence Anyways
but lately I hardly ever feel like watching any movies.
*A while back as store had such cute juice glasses with dolphins on them.
I hope they still have some of those left for me.
*Somehow I've missplaced a whole box with four pair of my boots.
How does that even happen?
*Storenvy have so many great shops.
*My most recent doujinshi purchase was シーロストラタスの種 by Minazuki Akira and it's the second doujinshi sequel that belongs to her manga Kono Yoru no Subete. So that must mean it takes place after the first doujinshi Donten no Hekireki. I've flipped through it when it arrived, it looked kinda angsty so now I'm a bit worried. I want them to have a happy ending. It's my favourite Minazuki Akira manga.
*My most recent licensed manga purchase was Tableau Numéro 20 by Est Em.
*My most recent japanese manga purchase was Bokura wa Sore o Hitei Dekinai
by Kyuugou.
¤ Hmm what else to write about....okay I can't think of anything more right now and this got too lenghty so I'll stop here. Maybe it also got bit too whiny sorry about that. I don't like to whine so now I feel bad besides there have also of course been many good times this year so it's not all bad. Anyway, maybe next time I'll write about the BL manga that I wish gets licensed. I like making lists so it shouldn't be such a hard thing to do.
