Well, that's it I guess: Back to work tomorrow. It's still too cold to venture outside but I guess I have no choice.

I tried out Voddler yesterday and what a crapload of fail that was.. first I couldn't get the client to start at all. No, okay, first I couldn't get their network test application to get through my modem/router, but that's because Comhem's new modem is also quite fail and hasn't UPnP enabled, thank you very much, but once I set up the portforwarding and changed some other settings it worked. (Note to others: Make sure that voddler.exe, vnetmanager.exe and VoddlerPlayer.exe are all allowed by your fireall)

..and then the app just didn't start. No error messages, no blue screens of death, just nothing. Nada. I double-clicked the icon and nothing happened. It didn't even appear in the task manager.

Well, uninstalling and reinstalling solved that problem so finally I got a chance to look up the choice of free and legal movies.

Uhmm.. yeah, there are a couple of movies I might want to see, but whyyyy does the system eat all my CPU? ANd why is there no option to manage how much bandwith the program is allowed to use? I'm pretty sure I don't want Voddler to eat everything; I'm actually sharing this internet with other people (and with other programs on my computer) and I don't want to install a 3rd party net limiter..

Well, at long last I managed to watch through Event Horizon with *gasp* no problems at all. Other people have complained about excessive buffering, a choppy videostream and various fugly video bugs, but everything worked like a charm. Except that you can't even use a mouse in the interface, you have to rely on your trusty old keyboard.

I don't see a future for this service unless they get their shit together. This was far too much of a hassle to me, so I have no idea how they expect non-techy people to ever try it out for more than those 2 minutes it takes to download, install, and find out that nothing works.

work, life: other, computers: software
