Life--Painter, Auction

Okay, Painterfox, I really appreciate "Nor, do I know if it is okay to bring up his carebears collection or what else I might mention that would embarrass him into not inviting me back." I love how you silently insinuate all degrees of depravity there. That aside, it was a pretty good visit. I need to plan another trip back to Stillwater at sometime, though I'm not sure that sukiko wants me that close to her daughter.

I went to an auction recently, because they promised bunches of old books. It was pretty good, though it was a bit annoying that they did all the glassware and stuff up front, and then rushed through the books. I lost a few books I was looking at, mainly because they first offered choice of one book from the box, and I held my bid for getting the whole box. I lost a book on the Titanic, that PG has but badly needs reproofing (for example, a list of names is simply awful). It's been heavily reprinted, though. I lost an 1807 book from Edinburgh (long-s!) that was on the hernia; cool just for the age. I also lost a book on the disaster at Galvaston, which stung a bit, since that's an interesting subject. I fought over a series of American Literature, but it hit $22, which was more then I was will to pay at the time.

On the other side, I got a lot of misc. junk. Several boxes of old novels that haven't been cleared, and a few unclearable personally interesting books. The Leaves of Grass that shows the changes is pretty cool and clearable. I got an old Arabian Nights volume that may or may not be cleared. I got a series of Kansas and Kansans that has local coolness, but will take forever to scan. I got a set of needlepoint newsletters from 1915 that I thought would go for a lot more. Most cooly, I got a box with several Amazing Stories from the 40's, plus some 19th century Harper's, and only paid two bucks for it. I held money back all auction because I though it would go for a lot of money. I also picked up three nice music boxes for $10 for my sister, one of which my mom thought was worth about $40.

I've uploaded a Navaho/English Juvenile reader for the 4th of July. It looks like that's it so far for the Fourth of July. Now that I have my computer back, I'm clearing and sorting out cleared material, and should have a bunch of basic stuff to upload.

Somehow I've found time to write this post even though I have an assignment due by midnight. Of course, I've got to get straight A's so I can present my self as a new reformed graduate student to future colleges, so I actually started seven whole hours before it was due.
