I thought, you know, why not just drop in to one of these singles websites and get a date for Valentine's Day? Can't hurt, right?
So I start my search with a local place that's been advertised on signs,
Lowell Match.com. Gee, that feels great, entering all my information before getting to see anything inside. And what's with the copyright 2000? It can't have been around that long, can it? And take a look at that Privacy Policy...right, the link doesn't actually work. Digging around, I find that the domain was registered in August of 2007 by
Nu Star Solutions in Panama. (I can't see that page, since Flash on Linux doesn't work well enough to leave it installed.) Ah, incredibly local. I'm just going to trust all my information to some company chartered in Panama that probably mass-produced these things for every semi-major city in the country.
Oh, yes, I'm working on telling that part of my mind that wants to point out that you shouldn't give up on the first try to shut up.
