Happy Hoopiversary to me!

I've learned a lot about hooping in just one year. I'm still not terribly pleased with how my videos of myself look, but I figure I had to decide to post one or else I'd just never do it. At least I can look forward to learning a lot in the future!

Video! Also, silly question... but my Flip goes through batteries really quickly, and I haven't had a ( Read more... )

I use have batteries that I can recharge.... joecichlid February 1 2011, 01:31:59 UTC
Lithium Ion batteries can be had from many makers but I would go with one of the better known brands. You can usually get a charger with a set of batteries and pick up extra batteries for little money these days. Duracell is the brand I swear by. A few years back Costco had them on sale around Christmas, $5 *with coupon* for 10 batteries or $10 for eight batteries and a charger.

You should also check with your local authorities about disposing of batteries -- IIRC, Ikea has a bin for them, Radio Shack may as well also.

I'm pretty impressed by the hooping; I can't get the things to go around more than about 3 times before they fall to the ground.

Afro Celt Sound System for the music?

I'll look into the local battery disposal rules.

And yeah, I was hooping to Afro Celts. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

Oooooo, that's lovely - and amazing! I remember how hard it is to keep a hula hoop going, and that's when I was just a kid doing it for fun, I can't imagine keeping it moving so smoothly for so long!

Aw, thanks! I can keep the hoop up pretty well, but I'm still learning tricks and how to look good while performing. :)

Looks like you've gotten it down pretty well, quite honestly. In the vid you seem a little self conscious, but I ascribe that to the fact that you're going to be posting this vid and probably know it as you're doing it.

I can't give a specific recommendation on rechargeable, but I've been using a rechargeable unit that replaces 2x cr123s, and it has worked well and not given me any grief at all, and I've been using the same one for like a year now. Rechargeables seem to be a good idea when available.

Thanks; and yeah, I'm still a little self conscious hooping for an audience until I get into some kind of flow state.

Yeah, I'll keep looking into rechargeables til I find some that fit my needs.

Congrats on your hoopcomplishments! Looks great! Is that a weighted hoop? Now I get why the decor is more than fun and worth putting some time into. It really does mesmerize and add to the effects of tricks.

Love the layering in with the belly too! Beautiful! It's inspiring to me to see how they compliment each other. Thanks for sharing the vid with us!

Thank you! It's not a weighted hoop; I don't know what size piping, but I could ask the lady who made it for me. :)

Cool! Thank you! I have a whole role of 160 psi at 3/4 inch. The stuff I got was called PEX and it is not quite as flexible as I'd like it. It doesn't make for a fully round circle. It'll still work though and I'll get better at making them. It's SUPER EASY. Ratcheting pvc cutter - cuts in a safe and quick snap. A hair dryer helps you insert the connecters in a jiff and voila! You do haz hoop.

Batteries can be recycled at the Recycling Center. There's a big yellow container thingy for them.
