update on all that is good in the world (aka dancing)

Today's been a great dance-stuff day.

I taught my weekly class and had three enthusiastic students to torture with strengthening exercises. From there we worked on energizing our hands by creating tension in a push/pull manner, and then we made "dance sculptures" at the end by working with one another's tension-manipulating hands. I pimped Tribal:Pura to my students, too.

Then I got home and found that d_c_m had posted some videos of Different Drummer performing on youtube! This is the first major creative collaboration I've entered into with other dancers, so this is a huge deal for me!

Here is the link to our Eroticon performance to a cover of "Lola"> (yes, it looks like Teri and I are making out at one point; no, we are not actually kissing)

Here's the link to the Different Drummer youtube channel, from which you can view our dances from Gencon 2007 (and 2006 if you like, but I wasn't in the troupe yet). (I'm especially fond of our "300" performance, because while I take political issue with the movie, I think its imagery was very powerful, and I loved working with it)

Also on youtube, I stumbled across Romka's astoundingly awesome sword dance... and then I remembered that they're teaching a workshop at the Gothla, and why wasn't I signed up for it? So I did. I've also been working on "Butterfly," and it's coming along pretty well, so I'm less petrified at the thought of performing at the Gothla.

I'm thinking about going to Tribal Revolution, btw. It's in Chicago in June, which is near enough I can drive it and as far as I know, I don't have any summer plans. And I really want to get my ass kicked by Amy Sigil of Unmata. Unmata does amazing fast tribal improv, for example in this video, and they also do edgy stuff like pony play, which I think is just fabulous. (ah-ha, the whole video of the pony piece is here!)

belly dance, dance
