As of last year knitting became something I did to produce finished products: hat for Grandma, socks for C., bag for T., guitar strap for E. ... The list goes on. As the winter season rolled around knitting lost its joy. I loved knitting, but now I couldnt stand it! I gave up on spinning because I outgrew my drop spindle and can't afford a good wheel yet.
Talk about frustrating.
This bugged me a lot, as I adore knitting. I'm not supposed to hate this thing that I have loved so dearly! So, I packed it all away. All of it, hidden away until we were ready to be reunited.
The MD Sheep and Wool festival that was held last weekend beckoned even though I had no intention of buying anything, so I went in hopes to rekindle my lost love. It proved to be horribly frustrating. The only thing I wanted was a wheel, nothing else, and I can't afford a wheel. While it was a wonderful event, I felt cheated. So much gorgeous yarn and fiber, but I couldn't appreciate any of it! One of the last booths we went to had this amazing green varigated sport weight kid mohair. It was so lovely, but I had no desire to knit. It was the only thing I had liked all day, and I didn't like it all that much. Ari had given me money to get yarn and all I could do was think, what a freaking waste, I'll use it towards groceries and bills. After an entire afternoon of not liking any yarn but that one, has asked me what I had in mind. I said a shawl. He wouldn't let me leave without it. It was one of those, you like it, you have a plan for it, you better buy something or I'll kill you, buy this NOW. I had a fit of, but I'll need $70 worth of it for a shawl WHINEIHAVENOMONEYTOWASTEWHINE. He scolded me, reminding me that it was yarn designated money and grabbed it. After three unsucessful tries with a sitting and lemonade break in between, the yarn grew on me and I knew I'd live to regret not getting this lovely green yarn.
So I did.
I've spent the last three days hunting for patterns unsucessfully. Nothing catches my eye. It's annoying. I finally settled on a pattern and started a gauge swatch. Then it all came back. It was an "oh. my. god. thisisthemostamazingyarneverIlovelovelovetoknit! "
This yarn is freaking amazing. brooksfarmyarn.com's Primero 100% kid mohair. I could just run it through my fingers all day long. I've never been so enamoured by yarn in my life. The color, the stiffness, the smell, the texture... Love, pure and simple... And the way it knits up? Oooomuhgawdamazing. The knit material feels incredible.
I <3 fiber.
