i may as well recap the events of last weekend, because it's storming and i can't go prom dress shopping till it passes. BOO.
ok. soooooo, last Saturday was the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association state championships. meaning it was our winterguard's last competition of the season. well, being the loyal and fanatically devoted losers that we are, Ginni and decided that we would go support them. so we set out at 2, thinking they perform a little before 7. everything's going great, we've got our mapquest directions to the high school, etc. on the way up there, we pass the North Carolina border. we thought it was a little unusual, but then we exited onto another highway that made a turnaround, so we thought we were heading back into SC to go to Rock Hill (since it's pretty close to the state line). we make REALLY good time and get to South Point High around 5. when we get there, we see a bunch of cars in the parking lot and some buses, so we get all excited and park and go ask someone where the winterguard stuff is. the girls we asked look confused and ask us what winterguard is, and one of the girls asks "winterguard? is that like tennis?" at this point, Ginn and i are starting to think that something's not quite right here...but the girls lead us to one of their teachers, who doesn't know what the heck winterguard is, either. apparently the only thing going on at their school that day is a drama production of "Beauty and the Beast"? we tell them it's supposed to be at South Point High School, which is them...but then one of the custodians tells us that there's ANOTHER school called South PointE high school back in Rock Hill. turns out we had wound up in BELMONT, NORTH CAROLINA--30 to 45 minutes away from Rock Hill. so we're like "crap", but we're still thinking they perform at 7 and it's only like 5:15. so, we head back, not having any idea where we're going because our mapquest directions have failed us. so we misslike 3 exits, then finally just start following signs that say "Rock Hill". on the way we see a Canadian license plate that has like, 7 "V"s on it, which was cool, and a car that--no joke--was painted a different shade of brown on each side. there was a dividing line right down the middle, front the front to the back, and one side was dark brown and one side was light brown. it was cool, and we would've admired it a little more, but i'm currently going 95 mph in a 65. when we FINALLY find Rock Hill--about 30 minute later--we ask for directions to South Pointe at a Wendy's. the people can't seem to figure out that i'm NOT FROM ROCK HILL (even after me saying it like 5 times) and give me directions like "you know where the Tech school is? yeah, turn there and go such-and-such a way..." and i just give up and leave. we see a cop (speed trap!) sitting on the side of the road, and we pull over to ask for directions--the first time a teenager has EVER voluntarily pulled over for a cop. lol. we're relieved to finally get directions that make sense, and we get to South Pointe high school around 6:10. we see Eric McMichael on the side of the bus loop, and we ask him when our guard performs. when he tells us that we JUST MISSED THEM--turns out they performed at 6 instead of 7--i scream for a good 5 minutes. Eric hops in the car, we fly out of the bus loop (which, btw, had like 10 speed bumps that i definately did not slow down for =P) to catch up to the Greyhound that's taking our guard to dinner. they pull over at Burger King, and Ginn and i tell the story over hamburgers and french fries--me still barely containing screams, lol. we follow the guard back to the high school, catch the last couple of guards, then settle in for awards. the awards were boring as heck, but Ginn, Eric and I entertained ourselves by watching 4 of the Epiphany drumline members standing in the back. they were so goofy and doing stupid crap...we REALLY missed Erik/Mikey/Chip/Chad right then. so, the awards ppl finally get to our class (2A), and our guard places 3rd out of 11!! and since the first two guards were from NC, we still consider our guard state champs--which made the fact that we missed their performance even WORSE. so yeah, we follow the bus home without incident, blasting Relient K from my car radio and staying awake on Red Bull. when we hit Summerville, we leave the bus and go to get gas. Ginn's sitting in the car, i'm just putting the nozzle into my gas tank--when a FREAKING HUGE Palmetto bug crawls out from under my car and starts fluttering around my feet. i scream and go running--the guy in the convenience store actually comes out and asks if i'm ok. of course Ginn's having a good old time laughing at my expense, but i refuse to go back to pumping the gas until the Godzilla of roaches flies away and starts slamming into the lights on the roof of the Amoco. i put another gallon or two into my car, throw myself back into the driver's seat, and we zoom out of the gas station. we get back to my house around 2 in the morning, Ginn grabs her car and goes home, and i fall asleep around 3.
we watched the tape of their performance yesterday in band class--and they were so amazing. <33 i really, really i wish i could've been there to see it =(
but yeah, it makes for a good story now that i'm not PISSED about it anymore! haha.
i think i can go shopping now...
