This and That - Again or Doors and Walls

I meant to get this photo up last week:

These are the doors to my library. Each year, for Banned Books Week, I cover them with brown paper and caution tape. Last year, I covered the book covers with brown paper for a lift-the-flap effect. This year, I printed out the covers of the top ten banned books from 2009. My pre-service school librarian did the rest.

And of course, I bought the tee-shirt that matches the poster:

I am wearing it here. This was my FB profile pic for last week.

In other book news, I did a bunch of book talks a couple of weeks ago. One of my favorites was Tom Angleberger's, The Strange Case of Origami Yoda. I swear, I could have ten copies of the book and I'd still have a waiting list. One seventh grader grabbed it, read it in, like, a night and folded a Yoda army. His LA teacher told me about it and how all his classmates were asking for Yodas and that he just gave them away. This is what was left of his army. Note the little origami light saber in the foreground.

File this under Ms. L. Rocks. These are photos of the Summer Reading Wall that one of the eighth grade L.A. teachers created. While Hunger Games seemed to have garnered the most recommendations, I was quite pleased that Jordan Sonnenblick's two Jeffrey books made the wall. Followers of this blog may remember that he visited our school in June and really impressed everyone. I was also a tiny bit tickled to see what series was notably absent.
