I am somewhat confused from your responce. you seem to advocate that church and state be kept seperate, but you then assume that in the modern world it already is? why then is homosexuality frowned upon/discriminated against? why is there not gay marriage everywhere, gay adoption, superanuation and the right to see a partner in hospital?
Oops! A typo. Forgot to add a verb in the first sentence when I edited my answer - I fixed it now. I wanted to say that church and state should have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
And as for your questions, I tend to forget that particular point of view, as I live in a country where gay marriage is legal - not generally approved of, no, but legal nevertheless. But should church be forced to wed gay couples, even if state approves gay marriages? In my opinion, absolutely not. Thus, it would serve both the parties if state did what it wanted to, and church did what it wanted to. Everyone would live happily everafter. Or at least I would. ;)
