maturity is painful. it includes conscious choice to suffer (root meaning: to allow stuff to happen to you, allow yourself to go through stuff) for the sake of a greater goal, what we used to call a "fruit." this is independent of our philosophy; it is a law of life like gravity or entropy: growth hurts. and we don't like pain. but we do like to grow. no sermon intended. uVic is a nest for you, and it may be a bit closer to 'the Real World' than the farms were. i doubt if it is a heavy "wanting to be back there, run and hide, not face reality" kind of thing, but it may be more of a step in the direction of independence. there are a lot of adults in any of myriad systems--at least a dozen sping to mind immediately, competing for attention ("pick me!"): the educatonal system, the government workers' system, the medical system, the union system(s), the political system, the (god-forbid) religious or church system, many varieties of business systems--and millions of these adults are considered sane and normal by most of their peers, including professionals. this is in The Real World, too--so it may not be anything to worry about terribly, unless you are into a Thoreau kind of thing, in which people tend to put themselves our of range of being helped....
