Danger Days - a first look

When I placed the special order for Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys at my record store, the owner said that orders had been slow lately and he probably wouldn't  have it in until this Friday.  "That's okay," I said, shedding a secret tear inside that  I would be missing all the hullabaloo of release day, "I can handle it."  And ( Read more... )

Actually, a few of the songs, like 4 of them, came from the original one, just reworked extensively.

I love your analysis. And I got excited about Mrs Dalloway (as I do) when you said it, because I've been thinking about how they've been talking about Sing being however you express yourself, maybe shouting on a street corner, or whatever, and Ray said that art is a loosely defined term, that it could be like his wife, helping underprivileged kids and stuff like that, that's her art. Creating something.

And I kept thinking about how Mrs. Dalloway forges connections, that she throws these parties because it brings people together, something that's been too often dismissed as her being a class snob or whatever, but instead, it's an art form, connecting to people, because that is her existential reason for living.

So, yeah. I'm with you on that nerdtrain.

And you nailed my feeling about Kids from Yesterday. I'm just going to stare at your words with hearteyes, here. It's funny, because even in my cynicism toward the band today, I do love the album.

Dude, do you know which songs came from before? Vampire Money sticks out like a sore thumb, and all the others are so congruent. It's fascinating to imagine them in another form.

Ah! I love what you say about art being a loosely defined term. I wish I could keep up on what they are saying as well as you do.

Re: nerdtrain - welcome aboard! I love what you say about Mrs. Dalloway's art; that's such a gracious reading of her. When I was in college, I wrote this irate paper about how her identity is eclipsed by blah, blah, blah and it's all very depressing/oppressive/bad. And my teacher was like, Did you not see the line about the beauty and the fun? Back then, I did not have enough life experience to understand that you *can* find your self amidst unpleasant, oppressive circumstances.

When I was looking over your Twitter to find what you said about Sing, I saw that you had mentioned The Kids From Yesterday--and I hadn't noticed it at the time because I hadn't listened to the full album yet. Hooray! It's awesome, isn't it?

Kids from Yesterday is probably my favorite, by far. :) Save Yourself is from an earlier incarnation, I think, and surprisingly, Vampire money isn't? I can't remember exactly which ones. I want to say Destroya is.

And on the EP they did with the box set, they have Black Dragon Fighting Society on there.

And yes, I read Mrs D later. And I remember trying to go back and find the line about it being her gift, this bringing people together in class during a discussion where everyone was like, "She's just a shallow, vapid woman" and I was looking at them like, "Are you crazy? Did we read the same book?"
