HAHA REALLY?
Why Juliet motherfuckin' Burke is my favorite character:
A lot of people hate her, or at the very least they did during season three's entire run and probably a bit into season four. Not me. As soon as I saw her trying to work through her emotions to 'Downtown' in 'A Tale of Two Cities' I knew she was going to be the most wonderfully flawed character ever. And maybe that's why I love her so much: She has such a bad ass exterior, she'll call your name and then shoot you in the fucking chest - but she's so vulnerable and has these crazy insecurities that keep her on this human, relatable level. And the first time she snarked during the book club - "WELL, ADAM." - I about died.
Not once have I never not liked her. My love for her didn't suddenly come on in season five like some people's. I have been a true blue Juliet fan. Some more things I love that I've started calling her 'Julietness':
- The way she can stare into your soul and keep that little smirk on her lips.
- The way she can just stare at ANYTHING unflinchingly.
- The way she smiled at James when he told her he loved her.
- The way you never know if she's about to hug you or karate chop you.
- The way she can calm James down when no one else can.
I COULD GO ON FOREVER. I'm such a Juliet stan. I will fight anyone who says she wasn't a great addition to this show. Her death was such bullshit - I can't believe they built up her relationship with James and then tore it down. And yet, that's a believable part of Juliet that makes me appreciate her characterization by Liz Mitchell even more: The woman had been used by most of the men in her life with the exception of maybe Goodwin, but she lost him. And maybe Jack didn't use her, but she still came in second to Kate. So, I think for Juliet, three years was a great run but she called it over based on her experience, based on what her life had to offer her.
ANYWAY, I REALLY LOVE JULIET, OKAY?
Master list.
