Things I do while bored at work

Jun 06, 2007 12:32

Yay, only 1 1/2 weeks of work left!  Since we literally have nothing to do, I decided I needed to improve my sewing skills.  How you ask?  Why by making clothing for myself of course.  I love that its just work related enough to get away with (though its not like my boss cares, he's just whiling away the time on the internets!).  Anyway, I made a bunch of stuff, but not all of it fits me :(-which I guess was why I've been working on it to begin with.

Project #1 -- Paisley Dress

Pattern : Self-made from my favorite sundress

Materials:  Random bolt end from the local fabric store, melted on the burn test so I'm going with Rayon and Silk ribbon from M&J Trimming.

Notes:  Doesn't fit me perfect (hopefully Mom can help with with some pinning help when I go home, the back seam needs attention)  But nice, and I'll probably wear it.  Still needs a hem, I'll probably do that tomorrow.

Project #2--Linen Purse

Pattern: Self-made

Materials:  1/2 yd Ralph Lauren drapery linen I found while cleaning the shop fabric storage, scrap muslin and grosgrain ribbon.

Notes: Fun and easy way to practice my topstitching, but I don't need another purse--do you want it
odd_on_purpose?

Project #3--Blouse

Patten: Vogue 8034 View C

Materials: Rayon I got on sale forever ago, 9" zipper

Notes:  The bust part of the pattern fits fine, but there is no way that the zipper will close over my waist--so this is also for
odd_on_purpose

Project #4--Silk Dress

Pattern: bodice from Vogue 8034, the rest is self-made

Material: Silk print from Mood Fabrics

Notes:  No one should ever let me buy silk again!  This project drove me beserk because of the material.  Also, I am an idiot when it comes to cutting patterns--I cut the same side for the bodice pieces twice!!  Almost had a nervous breakdown when I thought I needed to go back for more fabric (it wasn't cheap), but I ended up having just enough (by 3/8").

Thought it was torment, I'm quite happy with the results-the dress fit nicely when I tried it on after basting.  I still have to put the zipper in, but first I have to find a zipper on my lunch break.

Also, Mood Fabrics is amazing and fun.  I wandered around for an hour before settling on this.

Now its time to eat my lunch and then its off to the dermatologist for some spot removal!
