ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY STAG!
Lily's still asleep and I had to get up early this morning for work. There seems to be some kind of problem with some kind of old magic off in some random field in my jurisdiction. I never took Ancient Runes in school, so they've had to call in some people with a little more experience in this field, but I got curious and headed to the wizarding library nearby to visit Lily and brush up on the Anglo-Saxons.
TURNS OUT THEY PRACTICALLY WORSHIPPED STAGS!!!
According to the textbook I found, "[The stag is] the most noble and proud of animals, and would therefore be a most appropriate symbol of a King and his leadership."
Quite. Even just being a stag feels noble. I know that I've been running through the woods before as Prongs and thought to myself, "Holy fucking shit. I am so goddamned majestic."
It also had something about a stag-god named Ingui, which sounded pretty freaking amazing, and then this whole section on something awful called a stag-pole, which I never want to hear about ever again.
So then I thought it would be interesting to dig deeper and see what else I could find about Stags in ancient mythology. Turns out that cavepeople drew stags on the walls of their caves, and anyone wearing a stag's antlers was a "sorcerer". That's even more appropriate, don't you think?
The Celts also worshipped deer, and the stag shows up in the art and archetecture of a lot of different cultures, including the Chinese! See look!
This statue was at a SHRINE or something similarly important. Perhaps a PALACE.
They also put antlers on DRAGONS, when they're especially awesome. Observe:
SO ANYWAY, at first I was laughing to myself and commending myself on how amazing I am, I realized that it's probably not coincidence that the stag has that kind of mythological significance. jaykayrowling created me, technically, right? And it's possible that she did research to pick an animal for me that meant that I was really awesome, and I can't decide if that makes the discovery less cool.
Because either way, I'm pretty freaking awesome.
