Ron can’t remember the reason behind the words. All he can remember is Draco looking at him and calmly saying, “I have to leave…” His heart started racing, throat constricting, and yet somehow he still had the strength to grab his arm and pull him over for a kiss in a move that was perfectly uncharacteristic for him. After all, his father and mother were there.
“Just…come back…” It was all he could say, all he could think. His mind was screaming the words as he stepped back. He didn’t know if the other boy would come back or if he’d see him again. It seemed urgent, whatever he was leaving for but that was the thing about Draco. He never showed much emotion…even now. The sound of a pop told him that his…whatever they were…was gone. He’d said they weren’t going to refer to each other as each others’ boyfriend. They were something but…they weren’t. Suddenly the situation he was in, once again dawned on him and the second youngest child sunk into a chair. It was times like these Molly was reminded of Charlie when it came to her youngest son. He was stubborn and she knew, despite his needing her older son, he wouldn’t be able to apparate to him.
“Arthur…” Brown eyes moved over to her husband. “Get me some parchment…I need to write a letter…” She didn’t particularly care if anyone understood where she was going, though she hoped her husband of all people might just get the point. There was no argument from Arthur as he moved to get the parchment, grabbing a quill and some ink for good measure. There was to be no arguing with his wife. He heard it in the tone of her voice and that Bat Bogey hex was no less powerful than it had been in their school years.
“Here you are, dear.” He set the requested items on the kitchen table, moving over to his son. He didn’t quite understand the situation but the sight of his son staring at nothing, almost like he had suddenly lost all ability to do anything else…it was almost heartbreaking. “Ron…” He kneeled in front of his son, a hand on his face. “It’ll be alright, son…” It was almost like a switch had been turned on, life having been brought back to a doll…and suddenly there were arms around his neck. It was like when he was younger the first night after Charlie and Bill had gone to school. It reminded him that sometimes, no matter how old his son was, he was still his vulnerable little boy. He was still like that four year old, staring at the train as it left the station as his older brother left for his first year of school.
