“Is that really what you looked like as a baby?” Zacharias stared at the baby picture in his hands.
“Yes. That is really what I looked like as a baby...Problem?”
“You were so cute then, what happened?”
Justin would have felt insulted if it weren't for the slight smile on the other boy's lips. “You aren't such a beauty, yourself...”
“I'm a tragic beauty, Justin,” Zacharias responded with an air of importance.
“I'm sure...”
Justin smiled, looking down at the picture of Zacharias as a baby. He looked happy. There was another picture of Zacharias as a baby he loved. He looked horribly grumpy and his face was pink from the exertion of crying and being generally distressed. It was his favorite picture. He wasn't sure why, but it made him happy to look at it.
“Can I say something,” Justin asked, watching Zacharias quietly.
“Sure...”
“Sometimes I almost feel like I want to strangle you...but I can't help but love you anyway.” He looked down for a moment before adding, “Even though I know you hate love.”
Zacharias smiled a little. “I hate to love you, too.”
