Summary: James writes an angry letter to Peter.

Notes: I don't own these characters, JKR does. And yeah, I know, HBP and all that, but this is set shortly after the events of Halloween 1981, as if James were writing a letter from the afterlife.
Dear backstabber Peter
What the fuck were you thinking? Ahem. I'll try and keep my temper in check here while I write this.
I'm not sure if I should blame you for what happened or not. After all, it was just in your nature to be a slimy backstabber to glom on to the biggest fish in the pond, and that was no longer Sirius and myself. I suppose I ought to thank you for putting it off for as long as you did, because at least Harry had a normal family life as a baby, which I'm sure he's not getting now with those horrible Muggle relatives of his.
You might say that it's our fault for trusting you in the first place and a) not going with the option we knew wouldn't betray us, and b) not putting more stock in your Animagus form (after all, we know how tied they are to the nature of the wizard). Think about this, though: no one ever expects one of their friends to betray them.
On the other hand, it makes perfect sense to blame you for tearing apart a family and leaving a baby boy orphaned. It is, after all, your fault.
And then. Then you killed twelve Muggles. You also killed someone whom you used to consider a friend. Oh yes, you may not have turned your wand on him with the fatal words, but you killed him as surely as if you had done so. You condemned him to serve your sentence and took away his life every bit as much as if you had killed him.
I hope you rot in Hell for it.
I never thought I'd say this, but you are worse than Snivellus (Lily's reading over my shoulder and won't let me call him that) Snape. He may be a slimy git, but at least he's never killed anybody even if he doesn't know what shampoo is.
