ABILITIES: James is a wizard. In the Harry Potter universe, magic is subject to rules and limitation. As a wizard James is able to spells and make potions to alter his environment, but these do have their limits as they cannot conjure food from nothing, nor can he use magic to bring a person back from the dead to life. Magic, must also for the most part be channelled through the wand with spoken incantation, though it is possible to perform wandless and non-verbal magic, these are considered extremely difficult to do. James Potter’s wand is Mahogany 11 inches and pliable which is described as being very good for transfiguration.
James is considered to be a powerful and skillful wizard, later in life, Voldemort himself asks him to become a Death Eater, and Remus Lupin described James as being one of the cleverest Hogwarts students of his time. Even as a teenager he made some notable achievements”
He became an Animagus at the age of fifteen, assuming the form of a stag. It is stated by McGongall, Remus and Hermoine to be a very tricky form of magic that often goes horribly wrong.
He could also conjure a corporeal Patronus, whose form was that of his Animagus, a stag.
Along with his friends James also made the Marauders Map. It was map charmed to show the whole of Hogwarts and the people who were in the grounds at the time. The map is considered to be one of kind.
He was also a good duelist. Before he died he reached a level of dueling where he along with Lily defied Voldemort three times before they were killed. The dueling skills would have been developed in his teenage years.

CHARACTER PERSONALITY:
James was born into an old wizarding family and he was the only child of a elderly parents. so he never wanted for anything and his later behaviours suggest, they did not impose many rules on their son. By the time he reached Hogwarts he was arrogrant and had a disregard for the rules.
Growing up in the Wizarding world, James knew all about Hogwarts, the houses in it, and the qualities prided by each house. On the train to Hogwarts James said he wanted to be in Gryffindor where the brave of heart dwelt. James despite his faults, exhibited this quality through his life.
At school, James was placed in Gryffindor and made best friends with Sirius, Remus and Peter. James was very loyal to his friends, Remus described James to Harry saying he “would have regarded it as the height of dishonour to mistrust his friends." This was true of James right through his school career and up to his death. James trusted his life, and that of Lily and Harry to his friends, naming, Sirius and then Peter his secret keeper even though they knew there was a spy of Voldemort concealed with in the Order of the Phoenix.
James loyalty means that he will never turn his back on a friend when they are in any kind of trouble. When Sirius left his home at the age of sixteen James and his parents welcomed him into their home and treated him like part of the family. His willingness to help did not stop at staying within the rules, he was happy to break any rule to help a friend out.
Remus was a werewolf and he worked hard to keep this from his friends,inventing reasons for his disappearances. There was good reason for him to do this, as werewolves were shunned in the wizarding world and treated as dark creatures. When James, along with Sirius and Peter, worked out what Remus was, he didn’t shun him. He called it Remus ‘little furry problem’ to make it sound more normal and became illegal animagus so that they could keep him company in wolf form to make the full moons easier for him.
When it came to the rest of the general populace of the school, James did not exhibit quite the same loyalty or care to them. He considered himself one of the cool crowd and that everyone who wasn’t his close friend was beneath him. Severus Snape told Harry that James strutted around the school, and hexed people for the fun of it. This is backed up by old detentions cards that Harry was forced to copy out during a detention where Sirius and James had a drew of cards to themselves for various hexes and pranks played on unsuspecting people around the school.
It goes without saying that James was a jokester, he was known as one of the greatest Pranksters prior to the Weasleys and it showed even in the Marauders inventions. The Maruaders map was charmed to insult people who tried to discover it’s secrets. Those who liked James described the pranks he played as mischievous, and laughed, considering these actions to be jokes and for the most part they were and he and the rest of the Marauders were considered to be the most popular kids at the school. However, sometimes the pranks were outright bullying and James did not care.
A lot of the bullying was directed at Severus Snape who was in Slytherin House and James’ arch nemesis within the school, and rival in his affections for Lily Evans. There was never any love lost between them and James never wasted an opportunity to make Snape look bad in front on the school and make himself look good. The most noticable incident where he hung Snape upside down in the air while he ruffled his own hair up to make sure he looked good in front of the girls who witnessed the incident.
During his fifth year, James learned that there were consequences to playing pranks an and began to grow up and take responsibility for his actions. For a laugh Sirius told Snape how to get passed the Whomping Willow on a full moon so Snape could find out why Remus kept vanishing. When James was told what Sirius had done James went to bring him back at great risk to himself. This event was a turning point for James in terms of growing up as he also showed he would value other people’s lives above his own.
Even after this episode James never lost his sense of adventure or disregard for rules that he didn’t consider applied to him. Hogwarts students were not allowed out of the school ground during term time, unless it was one of the organised weekends to the local wizarding village Hogsmeade. James and his friends found the secret entrances out of the school and used them on a regular basis. Madam Rosemerta commented that she often saw James and Sirius at the bar. He also continued to keep Remus company on a full moon.
James also had a vain streak, he always ruffled his hair to make himself look good in front of the girls, especially Lily Evans. Around Lily Evans he also showed a jealous and possessive streak. He asked her repeatedly, and belittled Snape who was once a close friend of his. As one of the most popular guys in the school, it would have been a brave person to ask Lily Evans out when James was constantly acting her out.
Despite the vanity and jealousy, the bullying and arrogrance, James was inherently ‘good’. ames disagreed strongly with the concept of blood purity, and was disgusted with any prejudice towards Muggle-borns. Later in life, he will die fighting the Dark Wizard Voldemort.
At the canon point James is taken from he is entering his seventh year at Hogwarts where he has just become Head Boy. He is beginning to balance his love of pranks and rule breaking with responsibilty.
WORLD: The Harry Potter world is a parallel one to our own. It contains magical elements that are similar to every day like and many of the locations in the books are recognisable e.g. London. The wizarding community live in secret among non-magical people ‘Muggles’. There are secret Manors, house, shops and meeting places all over the country that are either invisible to Muggles or charmed to look like something else e.g. St Mungos the wizarding hospital appears to Muggles as a shop that is always closed for renovation.
Magical children like Muggle children are not exempt from getting an education. They can go to special magical institutions or be home schooled by their relatives. In the United Kingdom children attend Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry; other notable schools are Beauxatons and Drumstrang.
In the wizarding world there are perceived classes. The older more traditional wizarding ‘pureblood’ (both parents witches) believe that only purebloods should be allowed to practice magic and the blood should be kept clean. Voldemort rose to power based on these beliefs and the belief that wizards should not have to hide in secret. During James time, Voldemort was at the height of his power, and was recruiting a lot of followers and killing those who got in his way breeding a society of fear.
OCCUPATION: Prospector, James is going to be poor for the first time in his lift on the trail and is going to be keen to amass a pile of gold and quickly, besides it will be an adventure and a competition trying to find the gold ahead of everyone else.

It was the third day of their travel on the trail and James couldn’t stand it anymore. He stood outside the Marauder wagon with his arms folded. The wagon looked too plain and too small on the inside. It was practically the size of a house elf hidey hole, and while it had been to experience in the beginning, James felt the place could do with a few improvements for the rest of the journey. He took his wand out, and set to work. The Covers of the wagon became gryffndor colours and the interior become three times it’s actual size. To top it all off he made the beds more comfortable. It all looked infinitely better. James turned around to survey the rest of the campsite.
To his eye the whole place looked too orderly and polite, and it didn’t seem right for the start of an adventure. They were young and carefree (well the Marauders were anyway) and this was a start of big adventure. It didn’t matter that the clothes they were supposed to wear were a little odd looking or that they didn’t know where they would get all their food, it was all part of the fun.
In all the newness, he wasn’t particularily worried about getting home, they would work that out when they got bored of the trip. Lily was Head Girl and he was pretty sure she would barely feel the difference of doing Head Boy duties on top of Head Girl duties. He was secretly hoping that she would miss him though and abscense would make her heart grow fonder.
James stepped away from their wagon and turned slowly, and eyeing up the other wagons. Slowly, the other wagons started to change into bright and vibrant colours to cheer the place up. This would probably be the last care free cling of the Marauders before they faced the real world at the end of the school year and James planned to make it memorable. Then he could go home and do the duties he was supposed to do and get ready to join the fight against Voldemort knowing he had had some fun first.
