2006 Big Man

Ha. Yes, thats right. A new year rolling in... I have to say this is the first one in an extremely long time that I am looking forward to. 2006 is going to be a great year, I can just sense it.
What a doof I was this time last year. I have grown a lot, made some mistakes, travelled, lived more, gained more, lost some.
I feel at a real healthy place in all spheres of my life compared with the previous years. It feels good to really genuinely by happy, if not content. I dont think I will ever be fully content but I can be happy. I have just figured out that you really can do what you want and that that doesnt have to measure up with everyone else's idea of reality or "life." Creating your own reality doesnt have to be a form of escape at all, nor does it have to be neglecting a "real world." You must be willing, of course, to play into the life around you to some certain degree, but you dont have to allow it to keep you from pursuing the things that you want and desire to do. Most people are genuinely just not willing to give up some of the few unneccesary comforts to live a more free life, and thats fine...for them. Not for me.

Some gems of the year have been:
music: Ray Lamontagne, Sufjan Stevens, Will Oldham, and a newfound meaning to a childhood favourite, Neil Young. I have also listened to a great deal more of Johnny Cash than I ever thought possible.

Experiences: the road trip across the US to California with Jessica, those few days in Nashville with Jason and Andy were fun, should I count Ukraine? Nah...and the top one was a week of which I will reveal nothing...Hehe.

Lessons: Just buy the fuckin' ticket. Make it happen. That which doesnt cave under pressure is true. Drugs and Depression are not really all that hip or cool. Old men are scary. America is a lot more interesting and diverse than I ever thought. I like being American. I like being a Southern Belle. I hate animals. Bio/Organic obsessed people are lame. You CAN fly a dog on an airline for free. Winnemucca is the armpit of the States. Oklahoma should not exist. California is worth seeing. Abusing the government and corporations is not only fun but full of endless possibility.

Books: I have read a ton this year, which is always good. Some favourite finds have been: "Midnight in the garden of good and evil," "The Secret History," "The Time Traveller's Wife," "A Long Way Down," "Choke," "The Girl from the South" (nevermind the cheesiness), and I am currently reading "The beach," which is becoming a favourite.

And so, there we are.

I dont have any resolutions except to do what I always do: and that is, keep on the move, no matter what month that may fall under.
