Settling in for Archie didn't involve much besides setting down the blanket he'd arrived with and setting his compass that sadly didn't seem to want to work into a corner. He set the book of Shakespeare plays down on blanket and sighed happily. He was used to this although he thought he might have liked to feel the moment of waves beneath his feet ( Read more... )

Archie wasn't the only one who was finding himself maddeningly bored. Helping to build the shelter had been a welcome distraction, and though he was happy to have it finished, he missed the brief work it had give him. At least he was living closer to the ocean now, but William could only walk the same stretch of beach so many times before he did go mad.

Still, he quirked a smile at Archie's obviously bored expression as he returned to the shelter. "Evening, Mr. Kennedy."

Archie sighed. "That it is, Mr. Bush. In fact I could not agree more."

"Observant, aren't you?" William said, dry as always, as he went to sit down. He absently picked up Archie's book and flipped through it curiously.

Archie shrugged. "Always. I managed to entertain myself for five minutes and now I'm about as happy to be here as you are. Maybe it's all the sand."

He looked over his shoulder at William. "Are you fond of Shakespeare?"

When I first see the figure, I think it is Lieutenant Hornblower until I recall that there is also a Lieutenant Bush here now. Then I see the hair and realise it is neither.

As the two men I've met who wear the blue uniform have been extremely polite, I guess that this one is likely to be the same.

"Good day to you," I call out before I get too close. "My name is Faramir, Captain of Gondor." I bow slightly at the waist.

"I have not seen you before, but I have met two others dressed similarly, and both pleasant to speak with."

Archie looked up from staring into space and smiled slightly. "And a good day to you as well, sir. I'm Archie Kennedy, a Lieutenant in the British Royal Navy."

"Ah. I see and I agree. Horatio and William make for excellent company."

"Do I now?" William looked up from his whittling with an amused look. He nodded in greeting to Faramir.

"Please excuse me, Lieutenant Bush, I did not see you there." I am getting terribly lax. Not so much in the jungle, but on the beach during the day.

"I see that you have found someone else that you are acquainted with quite soon after your arrival." I know there must be a tinge of envy in my voice. As long as I've been here, I have met only Eowyn and she but briefly. I put it in my mind to seek her out.

My next question is put to Lieutenant Kennedy, as Lieutenant Bush is occupied with something.

"Are there so many lieutenants in your navy? It seems odd that the three men I have met from your era are all the same rank. Not that anything here makes much sense, I know."
