6.4: Dazzle

Dec 11, 2008 16:40

An event such as this was rather rare. Then again, the number of wizarding families of such prominence was extremely limited - and the eldest - on the one side, the only - offspring of two such were coming together, marrying, binding together in ways way stronger than just words. In a commitment deeper than non-magical folks ever knew.

With the social - at all levels of society - experience that the DuMornes (and, for what little Charles de la Marck had contributed, him as well) had, the rather unique event was designed to, in a word, dazzle. And it did so, quite effectively.

Of course, the focus was on the groom and bride.

Stephen de la Marck, better known to his business associates as Stephen LaMarck, was impeccable, faultlessly smooth as usual, and, once everything started, his motions and words precise, unhesitating.

Solace DuMorne had left her wild, startling teens a long way back. She was a woman with her own place in the world (even if still exotically unpredictable), and her conduct before and during the ceremony was unerring, stylish. And of course, between taste and money - and there were three women in the family (never lacking in the latter), none of which could be accused of lacking the former - she looked stunning. Which was the general idea.

There were, of course, those among the guests who didn't, and couldn't, comprehend the essence of what happened before them. The ties that a wizarding wedding created were right there in the core of the most beautiful magic done.
But Justin and Margaret DuMorne were far from uncomprehending.
In fact, there were few who understood better than them. And after all the years, their first child was bonding with somebody, this way, at last.

Solace had walked towards the ceremony stunning.

For all the unlikeliness of it - since nobody had seen that for a very, very long time - she stepped away from it radiant, almost aglow with the aftereffect of what had happened.

Her parents were the first to congratulate the newlyweds - knowing full well that with a gathering this size it was now, or a long, long time later.

The slim, elegant bride embraced the man whose name she no longer bore, arms going up around his neck, and she gently kissed his cheek. "It is good, Father."

He'd had objections and doubts and heavens they'd had their arguments through the years.

But now, it was good. All was good.
