The emptiness rang out, like the last phonecall, the unspoken words. The night was empty, for you had gone, and all that was left was a void in my heart.

His eyes very void of emotion when I told him the news. I expection anger, denial, fear...anything would be better than the cold emptiness in the dark green orbs. I had to say something, anything to break the silence. I had to apologize
"It was an honest mistake, I'll never do it again."
"I can't believe you'd do this to me Randi. I trusted you."
"Please, please...I'm so sorry."
"You're not the girl I though you where, you're a whore."
"Please Logan! I'm sorry, I didn't know the last taco was yours!"

Sitting on the curb, face in her hands, hazel eyes leaking. She gasped, hiccuped, and kept sobbing. Her heart was a void and the only one who could fill it was on a plane away from her. Jet engines roared overhead.

To hear people talk, near-death experiences are supposed to be all light and love and the spirits of family and friends.

Heh. Of course not. Near-death is a void, an endless empty blackness with no sound and no light and nothing but me, me and the knowledge that somewhere, what's left of me is either being mangled or mangling my attackers.

Then, finally, light and sound start to filter into the blackness and slowly but surely I claw my way back to consciousness. And, as always, after taking in my surroundings, I turn to one of my friends and make sure they know it's me again.

And then I have to ask "Who'd I kill this time?"
