I would like to learn how to fight without hurting my opponent, in case something like this event happens again.

That is extremely difficult, particularly if your opponent is also wielding a weapon. Nonfatal injuries are simple enough, but that would still be harm.

I am wiling to cause temporary injuries, Ij ust do not want to kill or cripple someone for something that was not their fault.

Then it would be possible to teach you to do such, yes. Procuring swords may be a challenge, however.

It's unlikely your sword could harm me, so provided I can find something suitable to use it won't be an issue. I suppose you could also learn against an unarmed opponent, if not.
