eat pray love

there are plenty of things i should be doing right now. for one, i should be at work. or even if i didn't decide to go to work and call in sick (as i did), i should be at least attempting to review pathophys and anatomy materials to prepare myself for school. but i just can't help myself but to take the time to thoroughly enjoy today after so many dark days- so to hell with the practical.

and the sweet red italian plune plums that i bought at a small farmer's market in kalkaska michigan aren't going to make themselves into a tart. (i ask you, who has time to make a tart anymore?) today seemed to be the day to don an apron and make a tart, of all things. so i dug a scalloped tart pan out from the back of the cupboard and preheated the oven. delighting in their voluptuous shape and color, i delicately washed and sliced the sweet fruit.  after making a gluttonous tart crust with the last half pound of butter in the fridge, i arranged the plum petals into a flower pattern and, with a giggle, whimsically crumbled the remaining crust atop the mountainous fruit pile. into the oven it went, with a kiss and a prayer. the aroma fills the house, seductively teasing the senses. before the timer rings my nose senses the tart is done, and out it comes, golden brown and crimson juices bubbling.

i can't wait to taste it...how delightful is that sweet anticipation.

and for once in a long while, i feel like myself.
