Cree stared up at Rail, blue eyes swimming in tears, and she began to feel more angry at herself than at him. There was no reason to cry. Hell, she barely ever let herself shed actual heartfelt tears. But this time?

This time was different, and she was really pissed, and she was really hurt, and his stupid, patient face with his stupid smirk and his stupid hair...

Her small fists pummeled against his chest once more as she glared at him. “If you're going to leave, take me with you. I can afford my own place! I'm fifteen. That's practically an adult.”

Rail shook his head, and she found herself hating him in that moment. “That's not an adult at all, Cree. You need to stay here. It'll only be a few more years.”

“What about me? How can you just leave me? Like going to school is so important! You can't leave me behind! What about Faust?” She fired her questions angrily, folding her arms across her chest, pacing in front of the older man. “You just can't leave me!”

With an apologetic smile, Rail shrugged. “This isn't about you, Cree. They're offering me a scholarship. You're still too young.”

“You're so selfish if you think this is the best place for me! Charles and I need you, and you're just going to leave us!”

With that, the little girl stomped off in her tantrum, light brown hair snapping in the air with each step she took, slamming the door behind her.

It was so unfair! How could he leave? Stupid university. What was so important about school, anyway? Didn't Rail feel invested in their band?

Didn't he believe in her? In Faust?

Stupid Rail. She didn't care. He could go anywhere. Whatever. She really didn't even want to go anyway.

Making her way to the roof of the building, she continued to fume, eyes narrowed and brows furrowed together. She looked dangerous.

Cree didn't need Rail. Not at all. So what if he wanted to go off and be all smart while she toiled unhappily here without him. Sure, she loved Charles, and Ed was pretty cool, even if he did keep trying to kiss her whenever Rail wasn't around. Actually, she liked that part. Maybe Rail leaving would be a good thing.

No. Him leaving would be horrible. What was she even thinking? Where would she find another guitar player? He was her other half. The other founding member. Damn. She didn't want him to go and forget her.

It wasn't long before he came to join her, just as they both knew would happen, his arm resting on the top of her head as he leaned on her.

“Cree, I'm sorry.”

“What the hell do you have to apologize for?” Cree pouted, her voice still holding that edge.

“If you come with me, you're going to have to get your own place. I'm not about to have some little kid in my apartment, cramping my style,” Rail said with an air about him, one Cree knew to be false.

“Whatever. You're such a dork, no girl is ever going to visit you unless it's me.” She paused a moment, turning so that she was facing him, a small smile on her face. “You really won't leave me?”

Rail nodded, his red hair moving with the bob of his head before he wrapped the smaller body up, hugging her. “Besides. I don't like the way Ed's looking at you. If you're living near me, I can keep an eye on him.”
