The mage had promised a way out. A loop hole. Not to take her proposal would be foolish. And Elissa Cousland was not foolish.
Without knocking Elissa walked into Alistair's room; the Templar was sitting on the edge of the bed with his head heavily resting in hands. The man looked up and smiled slightly.
"I need to tell you something Alistair," the thief said as she sat down next to him, feeling the warmth of his body. "There is a way out of it."
"Out of what? The wedding? Me becoming king?" Alistair grinned but the smile did not reach his eyes. "More lamppost licking?"
"No, out of something that we both don't want to happen," Elissa replied as she absentmindedly stroked the sheets that covered the bed. "Morrigan has a way out. With some kind of ritual we both can live!" she stared up brightly at Alistair. "No Grey Warden has to be sacrificed tomorrow!"
"Uh-huh." he leaned over to Elissa and started to poke and prod her head. "Well it doesn't feel anymore softer than normal. Have you hit your head on something lately dear?"
"I beg your pardon?"
Alistair furled his brown in confusion. "I just wanted to make sure, your not making much sense. Riordan said that there was no way out-"
"Yes well he was wrong!" She stood up franticly. "Trust me if I could do this ritual thing with Morrigan I would! Not that I would want to, and I'm sure you don't want to and with a child being born from it... I'm sure no one would want to have a child with Morrigan. Actuality the very idea of Morrigan being a mother is rather frightening and oh please! Alistair! Just say you'll do it." Elissa's voice had risen to an almost abnormal pitch and each word she spoke gave no pause for the next causing her to spill out all the information she knew in one long sentence. Alistair's eyes widened and he pulled the woman he loved down to sit on his lap.
"Hush love, hush." he soothed as he took one strand of hair that had come undone and tucked it behind the thief's ear. "Now, please in a voice that humans and not mabari can hear, tell me, what is Morrigan's ritual and what's this about her becoming a mother?"
"If you were to sleep with her, and a child will be conceived, then the essence of the Archdemon will go into the child..." Elissa chewed on the bottom of her lip, a nervous habit that of lately had become more and more prominent. "So when we slay the Archdemon then the.... Look, I don't know the details. It was a don't ask, don't tell kind of deals." Alistair opened his mouth to protest.
"You want me to have...to sleep with Morrigan? The most foulest and vile creature that ever walked this world?"
"It could be fun?..."
"Fun?" a short sarcastic laugh followed the man's words. "I could have more fun dancing the remigold while wearing a dress then sleeping with that thing." Elissa laughed at her lover's remark, it brought back memories of the first time they did a mission together just before the battle of Ostagar. Oh how things were much easier then. Alistair's arms squeezed her tight. "I won't do it dear."
She blinked her eyes. That was not the answer the thief had been expecting.
"You have to trust me though Alistair. Think about what your saying, if you don't agree-" her words were shortened by Alistair's lips.
"I know. It would be a foolish thing to do." he said as he broke away from her. "But if tonight is truly the last night we have with each other then I wish to spend it with you and not Morrigan." The man fell back onto the bed and drug Elissa with him so that their noses were touching. "Sweetheart, my love, I know."
"But if you did do this act then we could live the rest of our lives together. We could get married. We could have a family..." she cried. She was a woman who did not cry often or get overemotional, and Elissa was devastated when she found that tears where streaming down her face and her breathing was ragged. "Please...I want you to do this for me. I want us to be together, forever."
"Love, think about this. If there is a child then this child would be eligible for the throne, and with Morrigan as a mother who knows how that could turn out." Using his thumb Alistair brushed away a teardrop that had come to stop on her cheek. "And what would become of this child? Would you really wish a babe to have the taint or soul of an Archdemon?"
"I..." Elissa trailed off. She looked at the man whom she had come to love. He would be the king soon, and he would make a fine one at that. If he would not do this for her then she would make him agree to the only other option.
"Very well Alistair. But I must ask you for an alternative request then." her voice was formal, for if she said it any other way then Elissa would be reduced to nothing more then a blubbering mess.
"Anything my love."
"No matter what happens when we get to Denerim you must do what I say."
"As you wish my love." Alistair murmured as he kissed his betrothed once more.

Darkspawn where everywhere and the battle was raging on.
"Wynne, Leliana, Sten! Come with me, we are going to the top of Fort Drakon!" ordered Elissa above the noise of war.
"Wait, what about me?" Alistair questioned.
"You have to stay here Alistair, you must live to be king. To take care of this world that we are saving." Once again tears barraged their way out of her eyes. "You must live...." Elissa hugged the Templar close to her and whispered into his ear. It was the last words she ever told him. "Make me proud my dear, for I will always be with you." With a last kiss Elissa ran off.
"She fooled me..." Alistair whispered, his heart breaking at what his choice the previous night had cost him. "My lovely rose....you fooled me."
