I'm the oldest child, but I haven't found that the results of most psychological studies cover how I felt about it as accurately as I would like. I didn't feel the need to beg for extra attention because mom did her best to make sure we were both taken care of, and involved me a lot in the process. What I will say is that I gained numerous extra responsibilities, and with that, pressure to be a good example, neither of which I had prepared myself for, even remotely.
In short, it's made me more eager to please, loving, and supportive, which I wouldn't have had without a sibling to practice it on.
Who the hell was I going to bother if it wasn't him, anyway?
