Character Info
Character Name: Haruya “Burn” Nagumo
Series: Inazuma Eleven
Character Age and Gender: 14, Male
Character Personality: To people who don’t know any better, Burn tends to come off as a callous jerk. However, first impressions are usually inaccurate and Burn is hardly an exception. He’s definitely not the friendliest guy around in comparison to his peers, but once you get past a gruff exterior, Burn can be fairly amiable. Burn has few friends, but the friends he does have are near and dear to his heart. They’ve proved that they can overlook Burn’s faults, and he has several of those. He’s quick to judge, moody, often insensitive, impatient, a little selfish, quick tempered, and generally stubborn to the point of stupidity.
Burn is definitely a hothead, if you’ll pardon the pun. He’s most definitely courageous and something of a daredevil. He’s had a bad track record when it comes to authority (especially considering the Chaos incident). However, Burn doesn’t make it a habit to break rules. His rebellious streak only flares up (I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’ll stop) when he feels that something’s unfair or if one of his friends is in danger. On the subject of friends, Burn would go to the ends of the earth for his. He’s incredibly loyal and would never turn his back on a friend. He also hates seeing his friends upset and would do anything to cheer them up.
Burn’s a very hard worker, always striving to improve his skills, but he lets common sense dictate when enough is enough. He’s very enthusiastic about everything he does, and is rather competitive. He loves games and competitions of any sort. He also has a slightly sarcastic sense of humor and is prone to making witty remarks, even if the timing is inappropriate. However, these comments are (usually) in jest. He may use nasty remarks when he’s angry, but he almost never means any of them.
At his worst, Burn is a rebellious attention seeker with little regard for the well being of others and an incredibly short fuse. It’s almost too easy to anger him, and when he’s angered, he snaps. He would go to great lengths for attention and hardly care what happened to anyone else along the way. On the other hand, at his best, Burn is a caring, steadfast friend who would do anything for the people he cares about the most, no matter what the cost. If you become friends with Burn, you’ve got a friend for life.
Brief History: As a small child, Haruya Nagumo never knew his parents. He grew up in an orphanage, and his only family was the other children. When he was nine, he became part of something called the Genesis Project. This project consisted of equipping the children with small pieces of the Aliea Meteorite in order to turn them into super soldiers (for playing soccer, nonetheless). The radiation from the meteorite made the children physically superior to others their age. Children from orphanages all across Japan were used, and this was how Haruya met his two best friends, Fuusuke Suzuno and Hiroto Kiyama. However, the happiness wouldn’t last long.
After training for about five years, Haruya, then known as Burn, was placed as the captain to one of the top three teams created from children in the project. The teams began to collectively call themselves Aliea Academy. However, by this time, Haruya, Fuusuke (now known as Gazel), and Hiroto (Gran) had drifted apart. Haruya and Fuusuke had become fierce rivals, and Hiroto became little more than a strained acquaintance to both.
For a short while, Haruya and the rest of his team, Prominence, found that they didn’t have to do much. However, soon it became time for them to take action. Haruya himself first met the Raimon team in Okinawa. They had been searching for someone known as the Fire Striker, thinking that it might be their former teammate, Shuuya Gouenji. Haruya confronted two of the Raimon players, claiming to be the one they were looking for, despite not being Gouenji. To prove this, he challenged Raimon to a match. Afterwards, the Raimon captain, Mamoru Endou, was impressed with Haruya’s skill, offering him a place on the team, completely unaware that Haruya was actually the enemy. Before Haruya could accept or decline, he was interrupted by Hiroto, who revealed Haruya’s identity and his motives.
Sometime afterwards, Fuusuke approached Haruya with an offer the Prominence captain couldn’t refuse. Both boys had heard that Hiroto’s team, Gaia, Aliea Academy’s top team, had been promoted and received the title of Genesis. Both boys were enraged by this, feeling that they were just as powerful as Hiroto. The two of them combined the players of Prominence and Fuusuke’s team, Diamond Dust, to create a new team: The Chaos. The Chaos challenged Raimon to prove that they were indeed powerful. However, the match was stopped short by Hiroto. Fuusuke and Haruya disobeyed orders to create The Chaos, and were led away to be punished by their superiors. The punishment they received is unknown.
For about three months after the defeat of Aliea Academy, the children were sent home in order for them to readjust to living a normal life. Little information about this time period is revealed in canon; however, it can be safely assumed that Haruya, Fuusuke, and Hiroto reconciled to some extent. After this time period, Haruya and Fuusuke were scouted to play on the South Korean soccer team, Fire Dragon, in the FFI, Football Frontier International. Fire Dragon did well in the Asian preliminaries, but ultimately lost to Inazuma Japan.
Just a note, I will be taking Haruya from the time period between Aliea Academy’s defeat and the FFI.
Rank: New Student
Special Powers: Burn is, essentially, an ordinary kid. He’s physically fit thanks to playing soccer, but that’s about it. Unless Burn’s Hissatsu (“killer shoot”) techniques (normally used in soccer) somehow translate into magic ability.
Other Skills: Burn can take immediate situations and quickly pick out any advantages he and his comrades might have.
Keyblade: Bond of Flame
Reason for having a keyblade: He has a strong heart, and strong bonds with his friends. Despite several disputes in the past, Burn has never once given up on his friends, and his friendships are incredibly strong. He’s stayed strong throughout all the hardships that the Genesis Project put him through and he never wavered or doubted himself for a moment.
