[Click goes the feed. And Lea arrives there soon enough, being trailed by his small army of Chocobos, plus one Eevee. Stitch coat? Still on. He is also holding a very large egg close to his chest.]
[Axel's there a moment later with the swirl and whoosh of a corridor, and he stares a moment at the feathery conglomeration. Then he glances down at the two ice cream bars in his hand.] Uh... I didn't bring enough to share with the whole class, Lea.
[Although Radi is giving Axel a look that could only be complete with a pair of fingers pointing to his eyes and then the Nobody. He's watchin' you, bro. The rest of the Chocobo seem to be more concerned with pressing up against Lea.
...He might get lost in an alternate dimension of feathers soon.]
It was a joke, Lea. I make those sometimes. [He hands him one of the ice cream bars, keeping a wary eye on the chocobo as he does so. Never trust a bird that's as tall as you are.
[There's a beat of silence, and then Axel clears his throat.]
Well... I'm not so great at consolation, I guess you prolly know, but... if you wanna talk or something, I'm pretty good at listening. Contrary to popular belief. [He leans back against the nearest tree and takes a bite off the corner of the ice cream bar.] For what it's worth, I'm sorry.
[More sorry Lea's upset than sorry Stein is gone, really--he never trusted the guy. But he won't bother to clarify that to Lea.]
[After taking the ice cream, Lea just settles down on the floor. The Chocobos make a good cushion. Maybe it's a little too warm, but Lea doesn't even notice. He just works on eating his ice cream quietly.]
...He made me feel like I could do stuff. Like I could be better than I was and he was confident that I would be. Makin' him proud, sometimes...
[He shakes his head.] You know you don't need anybody else's approval to be something, right? [He waves one hand and then takes another bite of ice cream.] Living up to your own expectations is what matters.
[A pause, and he clarifies with a clumsy grin,] And I mean yours, not mine. [Levity: the ultimate anti-being-sentimental weapon. Only not.]
I didn't say he wasn't, just that he shouldn't be the only one whose opinion matters. [There's a beat of silence, and then Axel slides down the tree trunk to sit across from Lea. Folding his legs and propping one elbow on his knee, he wags his ice cream at him.] Look, kiddo, I'm the last person to tell you not to let one person's presence make or break your existence, but... [A sigh, and another shake of his head.] Well, sometimes I don't mind not having a heart so much.
Oh, good, I was worried. [He's obviously not being serious.] Trust me, if I could go back and do things differently, I prolly would, but I ain't figured out time travel yet, so... For the time being I'll just take the little victories where I can.
[It's an honest question. Both the home he got for him and Isa and Demyx (although the latter has yet to take them up on the offer) and the home Stein left behind are important places to him, with important memories. Now that it actually comes to it, Lea's not sure if he can choose.
There's no one tying him down to that crazy ol' stitched up place. He doesn't have to make sure Stein eats breakfast and does other normal things that people just naturally remember to do. But he's not sure if he can leave anyway. It's home.]
Er... the one with Isa and Demyx. [He supposes that was a valid question.] You just seemed really attached to that place, is all. [A shrug. It's somehow awkward now. Maybe this was a bad idea, he's not sure. He thinks it was the right thing to do, especially since Lea had so adamantly insisted on being there when Roxas disappeared that time.
[A soft sigh and he takes another bite of his ice cream, then asks,]
...I don't know. I wanna. But... When Xigbar was gone, I wanted Demyx to stay with us. But he wanted to stay at that apartment. I didn't get it then, but... I kinda do. Now.
[The ice cream has started to melt onto Lea's hand, and he starts to lick it up so that it doesn't get on his clothes. At the question, he nods and holds the egg closer.]
Only one in the yard. I'm gonna make sure it hatches if it kills me.
